Large Scale Central

Hurican Irene

Looks like this thing might effect us on the east coast and not looking good for the east coast especially NJ and NYC area. The guys on the KMRR are going to hold off until friday before they start securing any loose objects along the line and get some supplies in case they get stranded for a few days. (Hopefully this storm goes out to sea) The guys will keep everyone posted throughout the storm(If it hits) Everyone in its path stay safe and keep us posted.

Yea, we’re keeping an eye on things, too. We were planning on heading to NH to do some camping this weekend. Now? Not sure.

Shawn,
Make sure you have your Barbies in your basement emergency kit.

Ill be holding them in my hands throughout the storm. They will comfort me since you wont be here to hold my hand. LOL

Picking up my little towns structures today. Not really sure how or what we are getting. Better be safe than sorry.

When I get home from work Im going to start taking in some of the smaller lighter stuff. Plus all my outside furniture ect… All structures on my layout survived 2 blizzards but a hurrican not too sure.

Bring your trains to oHIo, I’ll “watch” them for you…

I don’t have any structures outdoors (yet) to worry about, but lots of lawn furniture, tools etc. The current track shows us just outside the 75MPH sustained wind field. I’m expecting lots of tree limbs down at minimum.

All you in the path of that thing, be safe! And secure all the RR stuff or it will be in the next county! Been thru a couple of them when I was staationed in Pensacola. Not fun.

Spent the day bringing in the lawn furniture, pool stuff and of course the railroad. Went out for Gas in the cans for generator.( Our power company is not good even on a normal storm, forget about a hurricane.) Expect to use it for the fridge/freezer and well pump. Could be worse it could be winter! Nice to see people taking this storm seriously. Hopefully it will lose it’s punch. LSC folks in it’s path please stay safe…

For those of us in the path of Irene, I HIGHLY recommend filling your bathtubs with water very soon. We had a hurricane hit us a few years ago and knocked out the power to the water pumping station. You can use the bathtub water to refill the toilets. Trust me, you’ll appreciate that.

Where do you put the Gin then?

David you leave it in the bottles, at the store, as you need a clear head when you need to start to clean up!

Completed my prep work this evening. Only took me about 2 hours to pick up all the lawn furniture and garden tools strewn about; shovel the silt out of the catch basin; put 40 gallons of water in the RV fresh water tank in case we need it. Bruce’s tip on filling the tub is a great idea. We do that every major storm since we are on a private water system with well pumps.

I think I’m ready.

Good luck to all you folks who might be affected by this storm!

Cant sleep and its only 4am. Getting pounded with rain wind. Never seen so many warnings and watches from weather service. Worst part storm not even half over yet. Thank god for smart phones

Shawn,
I’ve been thinking more about those “smart” phones. I have a very “dumb” phone.
I have a friend in PA. Her power is out and her home is flooding. But she is still able to get online.

I always felt who needs a smart phone. Now I have to say It was the best thing I bought. You can do so much with them. You loose power you can still get online. Plus there are some great Aps. I recomend it.

I wish the TV news reporters would get smart. I can’t imagine why they feel the need to stand in the wind and rain. Then to hear them complain about the “stupid” people that are out in the wind and the rain is just too funny.

I guess all is well with you and yours, Bruce ?

The reporters are pretty silly. But I guess it is entertaining to watch them get blown about
