Huntingdon Farmers' Market

Just to let you all know that the every two-weekly Huntingdon Farmers’ Market WILL go ahead as programmed this friday, in spite of the appalling weather conditons.

The usual traders will be there, and as ever, look forward to serving you with their high-quality home-grown merchandise and meat products.

mrs tac opines that the ostrich burgers are especially good.

I personally would prefer to see the local peacocks made into burgers - the noise from THEM sounds like people being flayed alive with spoons.

Sure appreciate that, Terry!

Have you got a map on how to get there?

You know me, I haven’t a clue unless told where to go.

Who needs a map? It’s in the market square, same as it always is!

Wellllllllll, here in the GWN the CBC has/had for some time referenced anything in Brit land to Reading, as in WatchitUnderTheTrough is xxx kilometers from Reading.

But I see it’s a case quite similar to the Ontario farmer when asked by the city slicker “How do I get from here to there?”

“Well, if I wanted to get to there, I sure wouldn’t start here!”

Oh before I forget, how about a taste report on the turkey-burgers? That is, if there’s any taste! ;(

I’m afraid that the taste evaluation of turkey-burgers, ostrich-burgers or even peacock-burgers will have to await the joining of a local gentile to this forum.

They are not kosher.

Sorry.

'For BEHOLD, the meat OF the turkey, and OF the ostrich, and YEA, even of THE strutting peacock, shalt THOU NOT eat, all thy days, that they MIGHT be shortened by the EATING thereof. Lo, the lands IN which dwelleth the turkey THAT gobbleth in the bush, YE know not. Woe to thee, Sons of ADAM, and lament ye, all the COMELY daughters, FOR the dwelling place of the OSTRICH is yet HIDDEN from THY sight. Even the PEACOCK, that liveth in another PLACE, I have not yet vouchsafed to THEE, saith the LORD.

And THERE was A great wailing AND gnashing OF teeth, rending of GARMENTS and tearing of HAIR among the Sons of Man, and lamentations among THEIR tents, especially AT lunch-time, and their womenfolk, YEA, even their gibbies, WERE not comforted.’

Book of the Prophet Drivil, Chapter 17, verses 23 and 24.

Hey, whatsadamadder Tony? Needa da Roll Aids to roll over?

Well, let it be known: I try to stay clear of fowl (foul) meals if I can help it. Just can’t get the image of a chopped-off chicken head out of my mind (that is 57 years later) and watching the reports on conditions in the fowl industry (salmonella, salmonella, salmonella) hasn’t helped either.

Pickles anyone??

HJ, might I suggest you go visit a feed lot (cattle). Take a good breath and then think New York Strip Steak…! E. coli…E. coli…E. coli…

Damn that pickle gets better looking and better looking…

…my bottles of Sheep Dip are begining to look better all the time…a Rabbi friend of mine says it can pass as Kosher, as long as it is refered to as “Holy Water”…!!! (He seems to enjoy it as much as I do !)

I actually prefer Spotted Owl burgers and Orca with chips. Although it takes a lot of malt vinegar to hide the “fishy” taste of the Orca.
If I can’t get Spotted Owl, I’ll settle for Bald Eagle—tastes like chicken.
Of course then I have to chop down a Sequoia to get enough wood chips to smoke the Orca…

Oh yah, those freakin peacocks…crap all over your car, too. They like roosting on the roof–specially if you have a roof rack. I know this from first hand experience.

…Road Kill of the day is my first choice. The price is usually good, but you have to be up early to get it before it becomes “Past Prime”. It is better to find in the winter as it’s “Shelf life” is longer. Or should I say “Roadside Life” !!!

Fred ,
The roadkill we get round here wouldn’t even taste any good poached in your superior sheep dip . It’s all Cockney Sparrers . Too small to get a good grip on when eating a la drumstick , especially after all the local stray cats have had their fill—assuming you can beat them off it .
The next size up , the pigeons , walk along the footpaths , so roadkill is more sporting , one has to avoid the pedestrians when mounting the kerb . A certain skill is required in this , points can be gained for delivering glancing blows to little old ladies , especially if they are made to rotate like a spinning top , but you have to get them just right for that . Trouble is , they fight back . Many a broken windscreen when they throw their dentures after you . Some drivers have been known to use these dentures for roadkill eating , but it is not generally considered good form .
Gad , it’s hell over here .

Mike;…Glad to see you posting again. I guess this indicates that your health has improved. Great…

Driving down in southern Idaho to visit a friend of mine.
This is a huge agricultural area, irrigated by the Snake River.
If you go down during harvest, all along the hiway are:
Potatoes
Onions
Beets
and other produce that has fallen off the trucks.
I told the wife to be on the lookout for a fresh roadkill, and I’d make the stew that night.

Delicious stuff! In Trollhättan - Winter of 66/67 - we'd head to the Torget for some Troll limbs and mashed potatoes. Of course they didn't call it that, it was "Korv og Mus", but them sausages could have been Troll limbs!

Oh, for those Rally people: Trollhättan - the Home of SAAB!

Been to the Farmers’ Market, bought stuff, come home and now dismantling the Vibona Bridge RR. Due to the slope in our backyard, there were places where it was a bare 3" off the ground, and others where it was over 2’.

Due to age and infirmity, and the ever-increasing weight of my Accucraft locos, we are raising it all by at least 18", and building a steaming bay. Uprights will be scrapped aluminium scaffolding poles - tops with be the former floor plates.

We’ll keep you ‘posted’ on progress…

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POST HAS BEEN CONVERTED FROM S.I. METRIC DIMENSIONS FOR READERS IN THE USA, AND DOES NOT REFLECT CURRENT PRACTICE ON THE VIBONA BRIDGE RR Co, WHICH REMAINS METRIC.
