Yes, Hollywood, and they were fantastic, too :)

Countdown clock for the Pomona Fairgrounds SGRS would be cool to have, of course below the York countdown.

I heard from Bob Tooney, who leads the volunteers at Fairplex. MLS has grabbed Saturday, Nov. 5 but we can run trains at Fairplex on Sunday, Nov. 6. during the Southwest Garden Railroad Show. Will that work? We might be able to get better deals on Sunday! Should we set a time to get together and is Hollywood bringing cookies?

Sorry Doug But I won’t be making the SGRS so you may have to check with Ray and see if he’s going and if he’ll make some.

:o :o :o

Cool that means I can run trains both days ;) :D

Great news Doug. I will probably have to go Saturday, the 5th though. My wife's b-day is the 6th.

Doug,

You said -“I heard from Bob Tooney, who leads the volunteers at Fairplex. MLS has grabbed Saturday, Nov. 5 but we can run trains at Fairplex on Sunday, Nov. 6. during the Southwest Garden Railroad Show.”

What does this mean? Is the “MLS” - Shad’s website MyLargescale.com?

How do you mean MLS has grabbed it? Do you have to be a member of MLS to run trains on that Saturday? Is it all MLS members? Are they the volunteers running the trains of the Fairplex? I don’t know much about Fairplex, so this is a little confusing. Is Shad and his Dad going to run the trains or what?

Please explain.

Hi Rick

Since Victor and Gary are “old pros” with MLS at Fairplex I’m sure they can answer those questions better. I know Gary ran last year and I think Victor did too. I think it is all MLS members. I don’t usually run at Fairplex myself because my eyesight is so poor.

Fairplex is an amazing layout. They have about a mile of track and have some volunteers that are there nearly full time.

.

Well, I don’t know that I’m an old pro at running at Fairplex, but I know that originally their were some folks who were volunteers at Fairplex and they and Bob Toohey got together to start the MLS Run (My Large Scale). I believe that was in early 2010. That run was in June of 2010. I ran at that one. That run was during the first SWGRS show AND the BTS, all scheduled the same weekend. SWGRS had another show in November of last year and Fairplex was gracious enough to invite MLS members back again. I also ran at that time.

Doug, my eyesight is not the greatest either-blind in my right eye. Fairplex can be a little trecherous if you have a sight problem because of uneven surfaces and lots of little detail to watch out for near the walking paths on the INTERIOR of the layout. If you have great range with your wireless set-up and you are standing on the grassy areas in the center of the layout, you will be good. But it is really difficult to follow your train in one spot just because of the gigantic size of this railroad.

Nothing has been mentioned about a run in November on MLS yet as far as I know. Maybe Vic knows. It is a great place to run your trains and the folks at Fairplex are the best hosts-very helpful.

While I’m a bit of a pro when it comes to lurking about train shows last Novemebr was my first time running on the Fairplex layout.

Yes I also read on MLS it has been discussed that the Fairplex crews would once again graciously let those of us who wanted to run on the Fairplex layout without having to belong to the Fairplex group, which was a really fun thing to do. I took the AC Price 16 wheeler and a bunch of shorty cars last November and will likely try again this year, based on which day I can go, likely Saturday once again. If you are going and can take something and can hang around the layout, its worth it, time is usually assigned in blocks and which track you want to run on, mainline or mountain line.

Nothing has been set in concrete yet as far as I know, probably because its still a few months away.

Ric, the MLS crew asked if they could have a day to run trains during the show, and the Fairplex people were gracious enough to let them, and also be able to use the picnic tables there. We ordered a bunch of pizza and had a good time.

I’d like to say that NO ONE would be excluded because they were from LSC. I’ll personally serve up your slice of pizza to you if you come on Saturday! Also, while we schedule up the trains we will run, there’s always “holes” and last minute cancellations, so if you brought a train, you could probably get on. We do our best to keep the trains running and the tracks full, so the Fairplex layout looks good.

Bill Toohey and crew are extremely nice and helpful, I wish I lived close enough by to join up.

Regards, Greg

I dont know if I will run any trains but I will stop by on the 5th and say hi to everyone seeing I will be out west at that time. greg if your up there on the 5th say hi.
