How can Californians afford model trains?

When supporting this many illegal aliens, how can anyone afford model trains in California with the taxes so high?

                   4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County
                   are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal ,
                   whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
                   5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California
                   detention centers are Mexican nationals here
                   illegally
                   6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles
                   County are living in garages.
                   7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in
                   Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from
                   south of the border.
                   8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties
                   are illegal.
                   9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.
                   10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak
                   English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.

                    Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our
                   crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the
                   United States ' annual population growth (and

Yep, Ric wants to recreate the trip along Route 66 and apply for one of those jobs the Mexicans hold down now. Wasn’t he looking for a vintage Okie Mobile too?

And then they have a group out there called 'La Raza" whose sole purpose is to get California, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona back to being part of Mexico. If Mexico was such a swell place, why did they leave it to begin with?

That’s the same mindset as the folks who don’t want us to drill for oil/gas, build solar panels big enough to do something, build wind turbines, build nuc-u-lear plants, build coal-fired plants, and so on. Doesn’t have to make sense…

Of course, I join with the wackos who want to tear down all the dams. I like to see free running rivers, to run the white water. I took a bunch of high school kids by canoe 140 miles down the Columbia River from Wenatchee, WA to Richland, WA. The Hanford Reach, the last free flowing stretch of the Columbia in Washington was the best part of the trip. I’m still glowing from that one… :smiley:

I was just hoping one of those left coasters could tell me I was wrong and that life is good in Californie with low taxes and everyone speaking English. Maybe there is nobody left out there that can read English?

Well, I can say it’s a nice place to visit. Lot’s of parks and fun stuff to do like train rides. Kewl museums and amusement parks.

Like i said before or Leno said on tonight show build a 800 mile Wal Mart along the border then they would have no reason to come to the u.s. would stop and shop em right there. LOL

Those 10 points provide a summation of what many of us have been trying to point out. We mostly get shouted down as being ‘racists.’

San Francisco has designated itself as a “city of sanctuary,” with the goal of protecting any illegal immigrant in the city from action by Customs and Immigration Enforcement. This is accomplished through a legal prohibition for any city department to spend city funds to assist the federal government. Of course they don’t refuse the receipt of federal funds. At this point, I really don’t think S.F. can be considered a part of the U.S. And the worst is still to come, as their mayor has announced he will run for governor of California. He has significant support from women liberals (one recent interview said he is “cute”) and from the Hispanic community.

In a current case in San Francisco, a man and his two teenage sons were shot to death when they stopped their car at an intersection. This was originally reported as a case of road rage. A suspect was identified and quickly arrested. It turns out that the suspect has a (juvenile) criminal record which includes robbery and assault. He is also in the U.S. illegally, but in each case, after serving his (minimum-time) jail sentences and in compliance with the city’s sanctuary plan, he was turned loose on the public rather than being turned over to ICE and deported. Nice to know that the beautiful city of San Francisco is a sanctuary for violent criminals.

A further development in this case is the police spokesman who has announced that this (the triple homicides) wasn’t a case of road rage, but rather was a case of mistaken identity, meaning that this guy actually meant to kill some some opposing gang members. It seems he mistook the totally innocent father and sons, who were of Arab ethnicity, for some of his fellow Mexican criminals. I’m certain the grieving widow will take great solace in this information. Although it can’t help with the great void in her life, I do hope she can sue the city of S.F. for enough to help.

I am continually amazed at the (lack of) reaction to illegal immigrants both here and across our country. In our local village, three of our best public school teachers are leaving this summer, as they are fed up with the rampant gang activity at the school, threats from the parents of the children they are charged with teaching and, in one case, the attempted induction of the science teacher’s son into the gang / drug culture that the illegal immigrant community brings with them and supports.

I now see that people are out demonstrating against the ICE raid on the so-called Kosher meat packing plant in Iowa, where ~400 illegal immigrants, some as young as 13 or 14 years old were rounded up. I assume the folks in that Iowa town want to have a large population of virtually indentured servants in order to keep the cost of their lawn maintenance in check. Where is the outrage in the Jewish community against this kind of blatant mistreatment of workers and disrespect for the law? Or is keeping the cost of Kosher meat down more important than human rights and obeying the law?

Ric, I would distribute copies of that letter to folks in our community, but finding someone who reads english is becoming more and more difficult. I’ll keep trying!

There are many Mexicans here legally. I know quite a few that are fine people.
The “legals” are not real happy with the “illegals”. They catch a lot of crap they don’t deserve because of the illegals.

This is truely part of the problem. If the Hispanics that are citizens of the USA or are here working legally support the rights of the illegals, then they should suffer the harassment of being treated like an illegal person in this Country. Same thing with the Muslims that put their sick religion over citzenship. The outrage should be coming from the people personally impacted, not a “cracker redneck” living in the middle of “fly over” country.

We had an “illegal” come into out county last month, but then it made front page news that a person was really not considered an “illegal” if he didn’t have blood relations living here. He agreed to no charges being filed if he was out of the county before dark. Kind of makes it tough on the Tourism businesses. :wink:

Mexico has very much a class culture. Most of the legals consider many of the migrant illegals to be “beneath” them, both here and in Mexico. The fact that they were higher on the pecking order in Mexico gave them more resources in their quest to become citizens. Not just money, but things like sponsors here in the US.

They may look the other way when a relative is illegal. Much like we might look the other way if a relative is using drugs. You don’t approve but that doesn’t mean you are going to turn them in.

Enforcement Works
Liberals and their pro-amnesty allies in the White House always try and frame the debate over illegal immigration as a binary choice: either we grant illegal immigrants already here citizenship or we spend massive resources forcibly deporting them. A study released yesterday by the Center for Immigration Studies provides more evidence that this is a false choice.

Using data from monthly Census surveys as recent as May of this year, and then extrapolating from previous research, the report concluded that the number of illegal immigrants in the United States dropped by as much as 1.3 million in the past year. Other experts in the field were quick to point out that hard data on illegal immigration is nearly impossible to pin down, but most agreed with the general conclusion of the study if not its specifics. “ Our data aren’t inconsistent with the idea that people are leaving,” said Jeffrey S. Passel, a senior demographer with the Pew Hispanic Center.

The CIS study attributed the decrease in illegal immigrants to stepped up enforcement measures at the local, state and federal levels. Study author Steven Camarota said: “The evidence is consistent with the idea that at least initially, more robust enforcement caused the number of illegal immigrants to decline significantly. Some people seem to think illegals are so permanently anchored in the United States that there is no possibility of them leaving. … This suggests they’re not correct. Some significant share might respond to changing incentives and leave.”

Camarato’s conclusions are supported by other evidence throughout the country. Forty-seven police departments across the country are receiving immigration enforcement training from the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement and another 95 departments are waiting to join the program. In 2007, 240 bills related to illegal immigration were enacted in 46 states, triple the number that passed in 2006, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Mexico’s central bank reports that the amount of money sent home by Mexican migrants declined 2.2% during the first six months of 2008. And the U.S. Border Patrol reported a 20% decline in apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border during fiscal 2007.

These developments ought to end any plan to address illegal immigration with an amnesty-first strategy. That path was already attempted in the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli legislation and it resulted in a five-fold increase in the number of illegal immigrants in the United States. Low-skilled immigration does not raise wages for those here legally. They are a drain on border county justice systems, and research shows the average low-skill immigrant households imposed a net fiscal burden on state and local government of $8,836 per year.

States ought to keep protecting their bottom lines through enforcement-first measures while the federal government gets its act together. At the federal level, the administration must continue to increase border security and more stringently enforce immigration laws. But Congress must also streamline current visa programs, raise caps and implement measures to reduce visa over-stay rates. The CIS study also found that while the number of illegal immigrants had decreased, the number of legal immigrants had increased from 26.6 million to 27.6 million. Camarota told USA Today: “It doesn’t seem like America is more unpleasant for immigrants. It seems more unpleasant for illegal immigrants.”

Legal immigrants, like those who enter through the H-1B visa program, are a boon to the country. Conservative estimates show that raising the annual cap to 195,000 visas would increase tax revenues by $69 billion between 2008 and 2016. We must change our nation’s immigration laws so that we stop importing poverty and start importing innovation.

What do you mean you wouldn’t turn them in? That’s not my World. My kids new from an early age, if they were caught drinking or anything else and spent the night in jail, that we expected a phone call, so we wouldn’t be laying awake all night worrying where they were.

Different Worlds. You do drugs, don’t come around this railroad thinking things will be alright.

Haven’t had the problem with my kids.
But I wasn’t thinking about close relatives. Their children are citizens also. I was thinking more like your brother in law’s nephew kind of thing. When its not your immediate family most people don’t get involved.

The legals I know don’t run in the same circles as the illegals. They avoid them.

Most of them don’t pay tax’s do to the USA puts them up in 2 story homes and new cars w/ food stamps and with Gov. Grants to start up or buy out business. The USA Gov. letting all of our factory’s, material & jobs go over seas.
And we as tax payers pay for them all…

Chicago has a very high crime rate, not to mention a very corrupt political machine. Most people view Chicago as not being a part of Illinois or as part of the US for that matter. Most of Illinois is basically farmland, at least down in Ric’s neck of the woods.

No, what he’s saying is that a religion that supports terrorists is sick and in some places refuses to assimilate itself into the rest of the population.

Our historical documents are full of references to God. So I guess you infer that our government is sick when they mention 'that word". I have no problem with any Muslim or any religion that considers itself an American first. It’s those who put their religion above the law of this land that I have a problem with.

Guess, that like most things, you do things differently in the USA, including the interpretation of the Kosher rules with regard to food preparation, in spite of the active presence of the religious Orthodox Union [OU] and the secular Hebrew National Kosher food Group.

The OU supervises many kosher foods. When the OU supervises kosher food, the OU sends a mashgiach (superviser) to the production facility to ensure that the product complies with halacha (Jewish law). The mashgiach supervises both the ingredients and the production process. Led by current CEO Menachem Genack, the OU is one of the largest and most widely recognized kosher supervision agencies in the world. As prescribed by Jewish law the staff of the meat preparation facility must be Jewish and the Shochet [the ritual slaughterman] must ‘be a pious Jew who obeys the commandments and respects the Law of the Talmud’.

I would not touch anything that was supposed to be Kosher that had been handled in any way by ANY non-Jew, let alone a Mexican, a citizen of a country not overly renowned for the beauty of its synagogues or the vast numbers of its Jewish citizens.
