Well, in preparation for Hurricane Sandy, I removed all my structures from the layout. Some guys going by in a boat yelled “He’s putting his bird houses away!” Made me realize how many of them are bird houses.
Now I’m headed down the basement to get everything off the floor. Hurricane Irene dumped over 12" of water. I know because my boots were that high and I got water in them. I have pictures of train boxes floating.
Interesting that when you are required to buy Flood Insurance (we live on the South River) it only covers furnace, water heater, freezer, regrigerator, air conditioner if being used, not stored. So NONE of my train stuff, tools, heaters, or fans were covered.
Gotta go get storm ready.
Power co. saying, expect to lose power for a week. I have enough gas for my generator for 8 days. I learned from last years storms. Flooding wont be an issue around my house since Im elevated but the winds will be bad. All the small creeks will end up flooding and taking roads/bridges out like last year Ugh…Lets see if my Fire Tower will make it through yet another major storm.
We’re well east of the snow, unless the cold front coming down from Canada makes a move, or Sandy turns more east and hits Long Island instead of Delmarva. We’re expecting lots of wind and rain, but no snow.
I feel for you guys.
At least the fire season is over here in Eastern Washington. Its nice to be able to breathe again.
Moved the RV to the front yard to get it out from under a tree in bad shape. Did the same with the boat, putting it in the middle of the back yard. Neighbor and I picked up a ton of leaves from the cul-de-sac to keep them from plugging the drains. I did the same to the entire length of my driveway as it takes the over-flow and has a few drains at the bottom that plug up easily.
Just now grabbing breakfast and checking in. Going to go back out and move leaves away from the foundation.
Was planning to put the winter cover on the boat today, but that isn’t going to happen. It will take it a week or more to dry out after this.
Later going for gas. I don’t think I can afford 8 days worth Probably will get 15 gallons and hope that keeps the food.
I need to do some raising of items in the basement tonight. We get water in even a short heavy rain. I’m pretty sure we’ll get a bunch from this one.
If this happens again next fall I’m moving to the moon.
Careful guys, take care. Momma Naturail can throw a big punch.

Ill move with you Jon. We can get houses next door and have one real nice railroad together. Im thinking western NC maybe Arizona. What do you think? I hear Ralph has nice property maybe we can be squatters on his property Lol
I have to work in the worst part of the storm monday night. ugh…
I’m with Steve, the fire season is over. Had one burning to the west and all the ones on the east side of the mountains. Of course now it is raining! At least I can drain the ‘daylight’ basement by opening the sliding glass door. I do wish you all on the east coast well with your Hurricane, that is one of the reasons I don’t live in that part of the country. I can deal with shaking ground, been through a few of those.
Paul
Been lots of rain here in Oregon heading east I’m sorry to say.
Best wishes to all my good friends on the other coast. I hope you all stay well and safe. Our prayers will be with you.
Well I’ve got the front yard all cleaned of leaves and looking real nice. Don’t want to look like a slacker as my house and yard slides down the hill The sun actually came out this afternoon for the first time in a week or more.
Been listening to the doom & gloom on the Weather Channel. The keep saying this is going to be HUGE. Biggest problem is that it looks like the storm could last 72 hours or more.
About to head out for gas and ice cream (or is it the other way around; I forget I’m officially old now).

The latest info I have show the center of the storm track going over my house( give or take a mile or two)
Jon I have been watching this one on the net the last day or so. Looks like it has HUGE potential. All you guys in the NE take precautions and be prepared. Still wanna see you guys on here after the storm.
If you have to make 2 trips as Richard suggests then make sure you bring home some bheers on one of those trips as well.
Ouch Hollywood! Stay safe
Most gas stations out here are out of gas already. Glad I got my gas yesterday.

Consider yourself lucky. The worst wind and rain is on the right-hand side. I was hoping it would hit much further North. Even direct hit on CT would be better for us than where it is headed.
And hopefully, by the time it gets that far inland you will be concerned mostly with rain, not so much wind. But this thing is a monster so anything is possible.
@ Richard - I was thinking; I should go for Ice Cream and gas. But then age, at my age I pretty much always have gas. Plenty of bheer in the fridge and lots of ice to keep it cold if we loose power. - And the old thing; I had a major milestone last week; 6 score. I immediately started having problems not driving over curbs
6 score? You don’t look 120 …
