Large Scale Central

Hello from the Heart of Dixie

Good morning all. I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and happy new year. I wanted to start the year off by introducing myself. My name is Dan Hilyer. I live in the Heart of Dixie, east central Alabama. I have been browsing around here literally for several years. Learning from all the great modelers. I have been collecting trains for quite a while. Although I do not currently have a layout, I do have all the materials to start laying track. I’ll create another thread to detail what I plan to build. A little background on me: I am a civil engineer who enjoys wood working, hunting and trains. I have a small woodworking shop located on my property. I hope to put it to good use while building the layout and all the structures that will accompany it. Ok, enough about me, just wanted to say hello.

Hello!

Dan

Hello Dan and welcome to the group. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hi Dan,

Welcome to a fine group of modelers.

Why don’t you join our MIK building contest? It’s a great way to share our fellowship. We aren’t pushy and tend to help each other.

John

Your welcome to hang around here as long as you don’t mind a bunch of us damnyankees hanging around too…(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Hello Dan, and welcome on your first posting!

Can’t think of a better way to railroad baptize your woodworking shop than joining our little Challenge this year!

Thanks for the welcome Joe. John, Mik’s Build Challenge is what prompted me to finally introduce myself. I am excited about participating this year. Ken, I don’t mind Yankees, but damnyankees … well, I guess they are ok too, lol.

Thanks for the welcome John P. Sorry I di not include you on the previous post. I must of been typing when you posted.

Can anyone tell me how to add a picture to my signature? I did a quick search, but did not find anything. Thanks for your help.

Dan

Welcome Dan and glad your throwing your hat into the MIK challenge. Great way to put that wood shop to use on a train project.

It’s all good unless we’re talkin’ about the New York Yankees Professional Baseball Club. The line has to be drawn somewhere!

Dan,

To add a signature to your posts, click on a forum Heading (ex. General Discussion, Track and Trestles, Prototypes etc.) then click on user dashboard in the upper left corner. That is where you add your signature. Any pictures used must be somewhere on the internet (your free freight shed is perfect).

Hi Dan,

Welcome aboard. What era do you ,plan to model? Narrow gauge, standard gauge, Steam ,Diesel, live steam, just trying to get an idea of what you are interested in.

Chuck

Hey Chuck. Although I have a varied inventory of engines and rolling stock, I plan to start with narrow gauge, 1:20.3. I’m not sure of the exact era. At some point, I have got to figure out how to integrate 1:20.3, 1:29 and different eras. For now, I’ll just focus on the narrow gauge logging RR.

Dan

Welcome Dan!! Can’t wait to see some pic’s of the layout build. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Back to the signature issue. I did find where to edit my signature thanks to Joe Z. However when I use the insert picture icon and paste the link noted below (without quotes), all I get is box with a x in it. What am I doing wrong?

Dan

Dan, welcome to LSC and the fantastic modelers here. As for Damned Yankees, I have been one for 30 years, between Tennessee and Florida. I look at it as folks born in the south are Rebels by luck. I am a Rebel by choice.

Again, Welcome Aboard!!

Dan welcome aboard. You will like it here as long as you dont mind us Yankees. Looking forward to your build.

I haven’t tried to put a signature photo in, but I know with the last software upgrade the photos people were using had to be resized smaller so they would work. So my guess would be that your picture is too tall (high).

Just a guess from another Yankee.

Welcome, Dan. You’ll get lots of help(??) from the group. Best advice is not to overthink what you want to do (paralysis by analysis is not model railroading), and that NOTHING is permanent. Be sure to include pix of your (various) progresses.

Welcome Aboard Dan,

Don’t worry about looking for the lifeboats, they’ll sink faster than the ship. We’re all in this together and another guy to help with the pump or the bucket brigade is always welcome. Some around here are old, some are young, some are old but think they are still young and some of us just refuse to grow up. Rooster, that’s a whole 'nother story.

Welcome
