Large Scale Central

Hello form Pittsburgh, Pa

It was suggested that I introduce myself in this forum, so I am taking that advise. I have been active in model railroading all my life but I have only been active in G scale for the last 4 years. I’ve been on another forum for most of this time but think the time is right to switch over to here. I only have time to commit to one forum per hobby. This love affair started with the purchase of a Ruby and circle of new bright track which ran under the Christmas tree for a winter until I set up a Dog Bone out in the yard.

It’s been hard to dive in head first as we moved into our house 4 years ago after I spent 10 years gutting rebuilding and adding on 2 additions. We also had our first (and last) baby two years back, so there have been allot of things pulling me in other directions. One of the additions to the house was a big attached garage with our new living room above. This gave me a place for my budding machine shop and to work on projects. Over the winter I have almost completed restoring an 81 J10 Jeep truck. This has also kept me from work on the rail road. ( but will help with hauling loads of crusher fines!)

As for my train related ambitions, I’ll start with my first purchase, the Ruby. It has been on the work bench for almost a year now. It’s getting a new scratch built tender ( about done) new larger boiler with sight glass, and new cab. It will be RC’d with control of burner, throttle, J-bar, and servo water pump in tender. A build thread should appear in the next few months when I get back to it. I was also lucky enough recently to buy the only commercially available live steam engine that I have interest in. An Accucraft EBT #12 ! Needless to say this wouldn’t handle the 4’ diameter ends of my dog bone sooo, The yard is being prepped for a much larger railroad that I have been planning for the last 4 years. Of course there will be a thread on that as well. Until I can get to these projects, I’ll be logging on and living my MR dreams vicariously through you all !

Welcome aboard again, Randy. Most of us came from somewhere else, so you will fit right in.

I look forward to seeing your various projects come to life. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask, someone here will have the answer, and don’t hesitate to dip your oar into the discussion, as I’m sure that you will have lots to add.

Again, welcome. Pull up a chair around the potbellied stove, and sing us your song. The 10:27 will be along shortly, if she ain’t late, again.

Welcome Randy!

The picture of yours in another topic is exactly how I started out. I also have set the RR aside as “Life Gets In The Way”. So keep a stiff upper lip, but I find that makes it mighty hard to drink the coffee.

Welcome aboard Randy. I look forward to the build logs and layout development. With PLENTY of pics

Welcome aboard.

WElcome to LSC…without pictures…It didn;t happen…

Welcome randy!

Yea, Hello neighbor.

Lots of good folks here, Welcome, you are going to like here.

Another welcome from southwestern PA. Glad to have unz here, inat. I also am an import from a previous venue and have found the people at this site to be amazing. It 's awesome to see the amount of talent and passion that so many of these members are anxious to share, with great photos and links. It doesn’t matter what level of the hobby one is in, I have found that all members, new and old are welcomed with enthusiasm. Buckle Up Baby!

tac: unfortunately, only a few of us old geezers will get your reference to a corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Wow! Thanks for the resounding welcome.

Steve and Lou, don’t worry, I’m Very happy with where my life is at. We could not have near what we do if I hadn’t put in 10 and counting years of sweat equity in. Good things take time. That’s why I’m exited about the rail road since I’ve been waiting a while!

David and Mark, Glad to hear from some locals! We may have to get together…

Tac- I’ve missed your sense of humor on the other board. Glad to hear from you. Perhaps you or Lou could enlighten me to the joke as I don’t think I’m geezerly enough to get it. (only 38)

Thanks again for the welcome every one!

For all of you text doubters I’ll share some pics but I’ll have to use multiple posts as I can only seem to get one pic per post to show. Don’t worry I like pictures too.

Our house as we bought it:

This is after a lot of work. I gues I should get a recent shot, this is 3 years old!(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7460/14172973111_c12c2e42c9_c.jpg)
