Last weekend while running our steamers at our local fair we had an 11 year old boy that showed interest in live steam and garden railroads. He spent most of the day looking on. I later found out that he has done model trains inside with his dad and they did modeling together. After talking to his mom, I found out his father passed away a year ago in a tragic accident and mom knows nothing about trains or getting started in live steam. The young boy wants to start up an outdoor layout, so I gave her my number and e-mail. Within a few days she emailed me had had some questions about live steam. I Invited them over today and let him run my live steam Sammie. The smile on his face was priceless, and it turns out he his going to place an order for the Sammie. Being an 11 year old, money is not easy to come by especially since he is buying a live steamer. He wants to build a garden RR and I told him that I would help. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to donate a section of track to get him started. It’s great hearing our younger generation wanting to get into trains. We don’t see that anymore. If anyone is interested please send a message or an e-mail [email protected]
That is very noble of you. I wish I could help out, but I have no spare track. BTW Shawn, YOU are the younger generation around here, son!
I’ll have a little soon. What radius? I have something maybe better. I have a Ruby with the following ailments. It was dropped and the smoke box door broke, could be fixed. Side tanks were removed. Might know where they are. It needs a new burner also. It ran fine before the drop. Its free to the boy if you take on the repairs.
Marc
Shawn,
Let me know what you are looking for? Also do not forget to tell them about the club?

Nico
Shawn,
We have our regular monthly club meeting tomorrow and I’m going to share your vision with everyone and see what we can come up with for you. It’s a great idea!!!
Chuck
Where are you guys? Perhaps I can help. I may be coming ito some rail soon. What kind, size, etc., are you looking for?
Thanks guys. I would say 6ft dai but I could also bend rail. I have access to a railbender. Code 332 is fine and any type of rail material. We are looking to just get up and running with the possibility to expand in the future.
Nico e his interested in joining the club and will probably make the sept meeting. Now if we could just get you into live steam lol.
Marc I can take a look at it and probably get it running. It might be something good for him to learn to work on live steamers.
Its nice to see the younger generation getting involved.
Tanks again guys. I know track is expensive. When we start building I will post pictures.

Dick Im in Sussex County NJ. He lives only about 20 minutes from me.
Shawn and Guys,
Kudos to all of you. A big brother can be a wonderful thing.
Hmmm what kinda scale are ya looking at? I don’t have track but I might find some surplus rolling stock…And with appropriate supervison turn him towards the extended family here at LSC…
I have some excess rolling stock I could donate.
Dennis
Thanks Bart and Dennis. I would say anything in the 1:22 to 1:24 scale. I don’t think he really knows what scale yet. He is more into just having fun running trains. I’m sure at some point he will settle on something. Rolling stock would be great. I could always make anything work for him. I really appreciate it.
Shawn,
I have some LGB 1500 and 1600’s a member of our club gave me. I’d be more than happy to run them out to you.
Pat
Shawn,
Are you looking for live steam only or could he use a new old stock Bachmann 4-6-0? I have brand new one that has been sitting on a shelf for a few years. Also have a couple of Bachmann billboard reefers. Email me if interested.
Dennis
Dennis I’m sure he would love to run electric/battery as well. I think at this stage anything would work. It will give him a chance to decide what route he wants to go and see what variety is out their. Send me an e-mail I can give you my address. Again thanks
Pat that would be perfect. I could even meet you in Middletown or at a halfway point. Let me know.
Shawn,
I bundled up sixteen (16) 1600’s, twelve (12) 1500’s, not enough for a complete circle, but I’m sure someone will step up. I also have a full circle of four foot diameter. Worse case scenario you can straighten them with the railbender.
I have no problem with coming out to your place. I’d like to see your layout one more time before you move. I have this beautiful LGB Genesis that would look great going around your pike. Lol.
I also have half a dozen gas cans that I can fill with that less expensive “Joisey” gas.
Pat
Wow…very cool!
LSC rules!
I have some LGB straight track left…Not much mind you, maybe 5-6 feet. Seriously low on excess track but it’s yours for the asking. PM me for a ship-to address if you want it. I also have two R1 switches (LGB) without any switch machines (manual or EPL). Again, yours if they would help. I will see what else I can dig up.

I have a B&O FA-1 that needs some work (fan unit fell off inside). The shell is off but I could put it back together. Runs very well. It will sit in my shop forever as I do not have the time/desire to repair it but I would if this kid could use it. If you decide to go electric let me know eh?
