Well, my bubble is well and truly popped! Thanks Cliff.
I knew the KE was cheap and possibly nasty - but the price was right. Once it packs up I’ll be looking at a real one for sure.
Cheers

A word of caution from experience. Eventually, you will want to get a filament drier. I got a Comgrow when they were on sale at Amazon.
There are similar on the market. The first time I used it, I had it set at 70C, their highest heat setting. Some makes go up to 75C and this is “a” recommended temp for drying ASA. The Comgrow default is 65C for 12 hours.
These also serve as a place to contain your spool when physically printing, as opposed to an external “finger” and have metal rollers to let the spool turn with a print job. Note the “feed holes.”
The problem I had the first time I used it was that the metal rollers get so hot that they will physically burn (leave black marks) and dis-shape the plastic spool that holds the filament! Do not use cardboard spools with any AMS-type system as it sheds into the mechanisms.
When I saw this, I pulled the rollers off and put a length of heat-shrink tubing on them so that the spool rides on this rather than a metal roller. Since then, I’ve not exceed 65C, but have not had any of the burning or disfigurement, and 70C would probably be fine to use again.
Oh… You have a Creality? Ooops…
