Today we finished up the NARCO siding switch and connected one rail of the main to what was completed a few weeks ago. How it looked when we knocked off this afternoon… .
The highlight of the day was checking out the fully restored Caboose 27 which will wear this patriotic scheme for two seasons…
Because it’s so hot outside I’ve been doing a little research and got distracted. However I found this and thought I would share it. Perhaps it has been seen or maybe not but I love old hand drawn maps and architectural drawings.

Nice. This and its subsequent sheets give pretty much every detail of the building. It’s really cool when HABS-HAER sinks their teeth into documenting a special building.

Most of what HABS-HAER has on file was commissioned by the Friends and drawn by local architect John Bowie. When it was learned that the station had to be demolished, the FEBT was allowed access to salvage what details they could and document everything. Mr. Bowie basically did an as-built plan.
It was those drawings and extensive photographic record was used to build the replica station. We weren’t so lucky when the water tank burned, but low and behold, they found the original blue prints in the vaults! The tank will be rebuilt as a functional replica. It is fully funded by donation and in the final planning stages.
