Thanks Bruce!
Yes, like David said. I don’t know if it’s absolutely needed, but after reading the instructions for a similar situation (can’t find the article now…), it seemed like a good idea.

Why not? It can’t hurt (unless you sand some skin off, or something), but I didn’t sand when I covered my little Yard Office with Magic Scuplt. It seems to have held up well, but why take any chances?
That will look so neat when you get it outside.
thanks Rooster…

Well, many a story that ends in the ER, or police station, also contains that line “It seemed like a good idea at the time”. Looking good Cliff. The animals around here have no respect for my work, and knowing what they have done to my stuff, I still cringe at the idea that you are going through all this effort to make such a quality model, only to leave it sit outside.
Thanks David, but there’s sure no place to leave it inside…
Great buildings are MADE to be put outside. They look so neat through all the seasons. I know some folks that only bring out their buildings when they run trains, but I love looking out my window at the buildings even when the trains aren’t running. (Well, that and not only do I NOT have room to store them inside, I’m just too lazy to cart them back and forth!)
Bruce the reasons you stated are why my building live outside. I have no indoor space, and if I did, I am too lazy (shut up Devon, and you too Rooster) to be carting them into the inside. But I also am not striving for museum quality and laser cut accuracy, with accurate and delicate details, that the local critters will break off for me. Them darn hoofed rats keep knocking over my oil derrick, a building like Cliff’s would be trashed here in a very short period of time.

Only time will tell, but I suspect that Cliff’s buildings will hold up very well.
Thanks Bruce. I appreciate being in the company of folks doing detail modeling for outdoor applications. You, Ray D., Winn E., Dennis R., others here and on MLS have long been an inspiration in my design aspirations.
And to paraphrase what you’ve said: when the crap breaks, that’s fine too. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

My Live Steam
Back home now, and the first thing I did this morning (after messing around on the computer and trying to wake up) was masking off the bents and other stuff.
Took about 3 hours… then we went to the local town annual picnic, and I got this at the “white elephant” sale for $5:
Kinda cool, never noticed one before.
Then back home, finished masking, and did first spray coat of the Quikrete Concrete Bonding Adhesive recommended by Jerry. I thinned it 50% with water to help it spray better (using a cheap spray bottle). Once this dries I’ll do another coat.
Then on to painting this critter, maybe tomorrow.

Nice pile of “Rock”
Your B&D workmate “white elephant” sale for $5 was a great buy! I’m jealous!!
Thanks Rooster, and roger that!
I got into the painting today, and am pleased with the results so far. 3-color variation, using water-based Behr paint sample cans (thanks again Bruce), thinned 50%, applied with cheap spray bottles.
But since I had to thin the paint (to get it to spray), some gray still shows through. So I’ll do the final coats later this week and post pics after that all dries.
I did the second coat, and here’s the results.
Here’s the color scheme I was aiming for (sans all the erosion).
Tomorrow I’ll try some “low lighting” with very dilute India ink, to try to bring some shadows out. And darken the road. Other than that, I think this part is done.
Thanks for viewing,

I think you need to fill in around the steps a bit.
