The stairs are shown “proud” of the waste material, because their structures were only gradually buried by the latter. Just like the trestles here and elsewhere in the area.

I did the second coat, and here’s the results.
Here’s the color scheme I was aiming for (sans all the erosion).
Tomorrow I’ll try some “low lighting” with very dilute India ink, to try to bring some shadows out. And darken the road. Other than that, I think this part is done.

Bringing this back to the top of page 19 !!
“LOVE IT” but you gotta watch your post count Cliff or others will get butthurt!
It’s all good
Thanks Rooster, HAHA!
I’m surprised no one caught my LSC / Jim Rowson Easter egg…
I was reading Jim’s interesting thread on wiring at the time, as you can see.

Are you kidding? We were all mesmerized by your masterpiece!
Thanks Jim, haha!
Yesterday and today I’ve been completing the misc painting tasks (they seemed endless!). Main thing was the “stone” wall. Also lightly spraying the terrain with diluted ink (then spraying it with water and patting it down with paper towels) to darken the crevasses some.
After a bunch of misc touch-up, I installed the ore gate and did some final fitup. Here’s how things are looking at this point.
I have a punch list of stuff for tomorrow morning (taking a day off work, yay!). Then I’ll probably start on the electrical.
Cheers,

There is no dirt or dust on the faces!
If this continues I’ll have to confiscate this compound and have you try to get it right on a new try.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Hahaha! You know Hollywood, I was thinking the same thing. So I dusted gray pastel on the dark plastic wood parts. Then I sprayed flat clear coat, and that made the gray disappear. Bummer.
But I’m sure the outdoor environment will take care of it before too long. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Now what am I going to do with the 18 wheeler I hired to collect the compound for me ?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I gots the answer…

No …you said it all wrong!
Cliff,
Your structure flat out sucks so may I suggest you send it to me and start all over again. This time build it correctly!
You know those tailings I’m reminding you to bag, next time!!! Rub that down your chute and everywhere men walk and shuffle along. Hand rails will be sweat, grime and tailing dust flavored, hand rubbed and perhaps shiny in places…
Other wise a pretty good first attempt…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) said Pooh, wishing he had a little finger’s worth of your ambition!
Thanks John, you’re too kind! And great points. I’ve got to remember to bring some of that stuff back!!
One thought, I think that hill is at it’s final size.
When the ‘new’ was found they built that hill for a closer chute since the RR had closed the bins. Waste still went out to the end.
I once thought there was a back chute, but later pics suggested your walkway instead… could be railroad property too.
Ya done good, Great! I know Dirk is smiling at you and giving me sideway glances to stop picking the nits… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
I concur too clean, there should be a fine layer of dust every were… same coloring as the pile …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) Looks Fantastic there Cliff !
I agree Sean, and thanks!
It’s been a while since I’ve worked on this, with travel & etc., but I’m now into the electrical / animation stuff.
Here’s the main “motherboard”, which has (from upper right left, going CW):
- animation controller
- 2 relays (to trigger sound files)
- sound player & amp
- daughter board with
- ESC for the tram motor
- 5v voltage regulator for the relays
- LED’s for the shed- another relay (I forget for what…)
The upper board just has the speaker and main power conditioner (input for all this is 21v DCC rail power).
And here’s a quick vid of the doors working.

The longer this thread goes on the more scared I become to click on it each time you post !!
I didn’t know you were building a high tech security system and electronic mouse trap for it as well !! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Yeah, and that’s exactly what’s gonna be living in there I expect, haha!
Thanks Rooster,
CJ
I realized belatedly that I need a sensor to tell the controller when the tram car is at the shed. That’s because with the semi flaky contact of the HO wheels on the HO track, there might be fits and starts to that motion; so timing alone won’t cut it. These reed switches will send the signal that the tram actually made it to position. I doubled them up just for the heck of it.
To install them, the trestle needed some minor outpatient surgery. This shows the reed sensor and the two 1/8" rare earth magnets just installed in the tram car chassis.
Wound closed,
CJ
