GP-30 3d printed

Need to seperate the top and bottom to 2 different print times, the cold pla and the hot pla caused some warping on the next 2 photos

the widows drove me nuts trying to draw, apparent the printer also didn’t like the windows, redesign time

first attempt at printing these files, not that bad considering how quickly i rushed to draw them up originally. most of the blemishes are reverse faces which are simple to correct, might have to break the body down to 2 more pieces to prevent awrping, will try just seperate the hood and body first, they are 2 huge pieces

I wonder if you’ll have to print the cooling fan rings as separate items to keep the top from curling. Plastic is STILL pretty funny stuff.

the cooling fans print later in the build, the deformation started when drawing the other part the long base section, i think between the surface area of the 2 was a bit too much, will try with just the roof, if that doesn’t work I can separate the 2 end fans and make them another piece

for the cooling fans I might also try to line the build platform with screen which should make the plastic bond with it, going to try a few things with this build before doing the “real build” an Alco Century

No Mark …you want to print Alcos not Geeps!

I vote for the chopped nose and new cab front to make an RS-3m out of an Aristo RS-3!

Ya, I need the front nose piece for an RS-11 so I can finish my build. Want a job?

Chuck my plan is to go through any Alco that the D&H used, rs-ll is on my list

you looking at a low or high nose rs-11?

oh this is the protype Soo GP30c

It’s just amazing what’s in store for us as this technology advances…

Great job Mark… Great job…

At this rate I won’t have to learn 3D CAD. All the trains I want will be available by then!

Whew… Finally a GP-30 that’s not deformed…

This is only the second thing I have actually had to design in this program for this printer, so i’m using a junk engine as the test, that way when I know what i’m doing si I can print the Awesome Alcos

Hey Mark,

I was going to model a standard RS-11 that Northern Pacific had which would be the high nose. I actually have made a wooden pattern and covered it in thin styrene thinking I would make a mold and cast them. The main body and under frame is a USA geep and modified from there.

I like the progress you have made with the 3D printing in a short period of time. Keep up the great work.

Chuck

Got my hands on a Geep today

fan need a rethinking, size great, but the reverse print looks better imho, might cut this down in 2 so that the bottom prints first and the top ends up like the bottoms in the next pic
