How long did it take to print the doors in each of the 3 resolutions you show?

Were there other library members threatening you with guns and knives to quit hogging the machines, or are they relatively unused?

Greg

fast and normal doors took 15 min each (wide and small door is 1 print)

best setting was 25 minutes for the 2 pieces

At this time the library loves me because iā€™m kinda the resident expert already and helping other people

I used 1 regualr printer today 11-3, the 2x which prints abs plastic (the pink stuff currently) hardly anyone uses, the 2x and abs is harder to use. Some days there is nobody else therer for a few hours and I ccan shoot more pieces than I can keep track of

Worked on the bogies today

all the big pieces for the main body and frame are done for the gp30c, doors and a spacer for the walkway still need to be printed

I posted this on another forum but it seams appropriate for this discussion as well. The issue was availability (or lack thereof) of spare parts, namely Aristo spare parts:

One potential remedy in the near future, maybe now actually, would to use 3D printers and a 3D scanner to scan individual parts off a complete model, then print out replacement parts on the printer. This wouldnā€™t work so much for motor blocks (yet) but it would for body and chassis parts.

The legal issues could get sticky only you started offering parts for resale outside of an active company but if the company has gone bust, what are the legal thorns then? Anyone going to try to sue if you started printing stuff based on Great Trains cars or engines?

Vic, the legality question I have asked before. Apparently if the part is ā€œcopiedā€ off a prototype (1:1 thing) then its ok. But if the part is copied off a model, and is specifically made for that make of model, then maybe there are issues, especially if the parts are being sold. As for ownership of any copyrights, or whatever, someone does own the Aristo molds, and Scott Polk is trying to negotiate the rights to use them to bring back the line. But if whoever owns the rights doesnā€™t stand up and say you canā€™t do that, then I guess you can do that.

Im pretty sure if your making something for your own use or repair then theres no copyright issue but when you sell them that is where you get into trouble.

Iā€™m not so sure about that Vic.
Repair might be OK.

After all, you canā€™t ā€œlegallyā€ copy someoneā€™s photo and hang it in your living room.
However, if itā€™s for personal use, whoā€™s going to know?

Iā€™m sure weā€™ll see lawsuits in the future that will establish the boundaries
