Well, it’s too dark to put this outside, but I’m almost finished with the last steps for a small block of buildings for my town. You might be able to guess who they’re named after.
Bruce those look great. I want some details–construction method, etc. Also where will they go?
Hehe…well, I don’t have any pictures of construction this time.
The front is a single piece of corrugated plastic (about 3/8" thick). The ends and back are made of the same material and covered with Precision Products brick sheet.
Openings were cut for the windows. All windows custom made - I wanted different sizes. They are glazed with 1/16 or 1/8" acrylic. Same with the hardware windows. Just some old junk and stuff placed in the windows.
The people were scaled to 1:20 and printed on vinyl, mounted on plastic and glued behind the windows. Some close ups shortly.
The buildings will go between my gas station and bank; they’ll replace the barbershop and drug store. The old buildings will move to the other side of the street for now.
I started off by modifying a “Fine Folk” figure. The hat was replaced with a cap; beard and glasses added. Plus an early RCS controller in his right hand. The cigar is just a piece of brass rod.

I set some of the pictures back a few mm…others were just glued in place against the back wall. The hardest part was finding decent pictures. Most of my pictures are taken outside; but I used them anyway. Still, I needed to find ones that would scale to the right size. Ric Golding and Fred Mills:

That’s pretty cool. What a neat idea. I think I recognize a few of those folks
That’s a great idea!
You need to get some better looking people in there though–those guys are a little too prototypical
Great buildings, but what a bunch of reprobates hanging out in them.
How Neat.
Can I be in a window as well please??
LMAO!! That’s pretty damn clever…

I have to agree with Bob…coulda found better pix in the Post Office…
Now that’s a Christmas present.
Very nice Bruce - I even recognize the bottles.
This IS a tad bigger than the buildings it will replace.

I’m pleased that the sunlight gives enough light to see the details.

More people here as well: Matt Brown, Andre Schofield, Gary Buchanan, Jane Clarke and Jan Golding and Dave Goodson.
Bruce,
Showing your work to the family and wondering when you have a chance if you could give us a close up of Jan and Jane’s pictures? Thanks. This is really cool.
What? You don’t like the detail in that distant shot? I was just trying to protect myself! Now, just don’t look TOO closely…

Wow, that looks great Bruce! The pics in the window is a cool idea, and you did a good job modifying that figure. I also like all the details in the hardware store.
Bruce, that’s fantastic… Great job on the windows and buildings… Jane & I both thank you for being included…
Great idea with the photos. That’s a real rogues gallery.
Dave
LMAO…now that is funny!..Great idea on the interior photos! I also like using the names of folks here for your businesses, nice touch…I have a snow plow named after me already…teee hee hee!
I try to not get involved with your building projects as I sat here and drank till I threw up and passed out(not really but sounded good) with “The BANK” that was awesome! I did buy wedding cake columns and have a use for them as well but not a bank (great idea and cheap). Wife thought I was nuts in Michaels craft store with the things I brought to the register that day. You guys are outta’ control and slowly sucking me in! HELP!!!
I really want to model a brick structure next but fear it for many reasons!
Bruce, that is very clever. It really took a lot of thought, to do this. Not just the standard windows. Excellent
