Getting another build off my bucket list... a BL2

Joe, I’m working on uglier as I get the time.

Thank you all for the comments. Hoping to get time on the build over the holiday

That this needs some Groucho Marx garb

Next up I worked on the fans and their placement. I had to flatten the roof in the fan area and then get the spacing right, as the exhaust stacks have to fit in there too.

Holes were drilled for the fans

The area was sheeted over and after the exhaust holes were drilled, I cut through the sheeting to mount the fans. This helped keep the wood from chipping, but didn’t stop it all so I still had to do some fill with putty.

And then I figured out where and how to mount the smoke units

Once the smoke unit placement was figured out I drilled holes fully through the roof in case I decide to use smoke in operation. If I weren’t going to use the smoke units I would have just mounted the exhaust stacks on the roof, as the clearances are very tight.

With the body now ready to be joined I need to work the cab detail i won’t be able to get to, so I started on the electric closet and door wall to the back of the unit.

And the dash

Need to build control stands and mount the seats next.

Looking good Hollywood;)

Oh No! Now this is stuck in my head!!
I wish I had not seen this. You’re doing a great job. I never thought of building with wood. Very cool.

Cheat to Win…its the LSC motto…just don;t use protomatter in the Matrix…you know what happens when you do…

Hideous loco Hollywood…jsut like a BL2…

Rear electric panel wall got more detail. I had to etch out the T handles.

Then I started the small stuff.

BL2 224

Some comparison shots with my engineer.

Detail

and some paint.

And more work on the front of the cab, getting ready for the details.

That’s all till next chance to work on it.

I still don’t see the smoke stack and side rods.

By the way looking good. I like when people work with wood justwish I was better at it (shut up Rooster)

Keep that peanut butter away from Rooster.

It will make your beak sticky!

I was able to paint and install the cab interior as I found an hour here and there to work on it.

BL2 320

And worked on the doors to close up the cab

While relaxing at night I stripped the trucks, re lubed them and wrapped the sleeves with fishing line as I noted a couple had split. The wrap would have been done anyway as surety against problems later on.

Thanks again for following the build.

Looking good Dave;)

Cool…

Nice, Hollywood. I’m impressed with your woodworking skills!

We’ll have to have a build challenge using only toothpicks - built from scratch!

Something like this Lou? Hand split shingles and a carved out bucket …

HPIM1552

Yeah, but where are the wheels?

Guess you never saw a chicken try to eat peanut butter. Its very entertaining.

Hollywood nice work.

WOW. Been a while since I checked on this thread. The cab details are great.

Yeah… he stole the mic cable idea from me !

Thief!

That is the great thing about a Forum David. There are lots of great ideas, especially from guys like Dave M, to either adapt (according to our skill level) or just enjoy watching them being built.
