Getting a 56 Buick

I pick up my 56 Buick Roadmaster 4 Dr Hardtop on Saturday. Been eying it since last fall. Has new exhaust/wide white walls/brakes/some engine work. I will have to fix the radio/wipers/speedometer and who knows what else. Runs good, no rust(I crawled around looking at it). Has been lowered a few inches, but I like that. Will have to do new paint/interior down the line. Has the original paint/interior but the front seat needs redoing. Original carpet also. Will just be a fun car to drive, no major resto job, just fun!

KOOOOOL!!!
Welcome to the club!
Took my roadster out yesterday with the top dropped. Got to the diner and it started to rain.
I told my wife it needed a bath anyway.
She said, “The inside?”.
So I raised the top.

Anyway, have phun with the new ride.
I wonder if Blue Regal sold his yet?

Nice.
I’d love to have an old cruiser

Excellent Jerry. The closest thing I had to that, back in the day, was a '53 Olds 88, black over yellow. I too have been considering an old ‘Ghetto Jet’ with power everything.

I picked up the Buick today, looked better than I recalled! I do need to get the steering looked at, bit scary on the 35 mile trip home. Brakes are new, but mushy. So once I replenish the coffers I’ll take it in to my mechanic.

I know some kids around here that have almost as much chrome ‘up front’ as that beautiful classic Buick. It looks good lowered!

Nice looking Roadmaster buick. did not know you like old cars. I have an original one owner(me) 1971 SS 454 Monte Carlo with all the paper work. Even drove it today after being cooped up in it’s trailer for 20 years. It use to be a show car and even had it in Omaha on display years back. Later RJD

Jerry, That thing is bangin’ very nice ride!

Thanks guys. I have since had new shocks installed and had the front end aligned, steers lots better. I just got the electric wiper motor in, someone had cut all the vacuum lines, plus I hate vacuum motors anyway, had one in my 55 Chevy, go up a hill and you lose the wipers, accelerate you lose them…etc. Ordered a new radio, it will fit in the stock hole, will save the old one for the next buyer. Ordering a new speedometer cable also. When I have all will tear into the dash. New interior in a couple of months and new paint about Jan or so, once I save up. Danbury Mint is bringing out a 56 Roadmaster 4 dr hardtop(which is what I have). I ordered one. I see some of their stuff is pretty cheap on ebay. Jerry,

We see Jay Leno driving around Burbank all the time with his beautiful red and white ‘56 Buick convertible. He always has two or three of his car club buddies with him. I saw him driving it in downtown Burbank about two weeks ago-just crusin’.

Nice car Jerry!

Yeah, that’s a nice one, basically the old body, but a new car underneath. Me no havey dose’ bucks.

]/img] Sorry about the hijack Jerry. I thot you’d like this.

Wow, a mini gun in a jeep? That’s rare! We had gun trucks with several in them. I did see one mini in a jeep at the PDO yard near Qui Nhon, they used if for security, whole back seat was trays for the mini-gun. I think I took a picture of it, but never have found it. Thanks for the post.

that pic wakes nostalgia! no, not you - the car, that looks like a real car, instead of like a modern tin-egg.

I like it Korm, get a lot of waves and thumbs up when I drive it around. Saving up for new interior right now.

Jerry the Yellow out line on the car was that original? I never recalled seeing one like that. Well you made better head way on yours so far than I have on mine this year. Waiting for it to cool down. Later RJD

RJ,
The car was originally orange(where the black is now) and white. He sprayed the orange on(real sloppily!). Getting the interior done next month, then will look for a painter.

What was a shame we had a great restoration shop here in town. They did my interior but then the economy went belly up and the did to. They where even featured on Speed channel that did a lot of revise and restores. Thanks for the update Jerry . Later RJD

Buick is in the paint shop. Local Hispanic doing it out of his small garage. Half the price of the guys in the next town. No one here would touch it. He has since taken all the old paint off and primed it all, sanded/touched up. Looks real smooth. I stripped all the chrome/interior out before taking it over.

Are you going stock with it, or “resto-rod”?
(upgraded motor and running gear, etc.)
