Get a life

You guys need to get a life, or go play with your trains.

Look at the home page - The ONLY active topics are the political b.s. threads. Anyone coming here to learn about Large Scale Trains and looking at the active topic list would think were nothing but a bunch of cranky old farts who have nothing better to do than argue politics.

Ric said in one of these stupid threads that no-ones vote will be changed because of these arguments. He’s right. So what’s the point?

Do us all a favor and go play with your trains.

Hear hear!

I have a life…how about you?
Knowledge is a good thing. Whether I am learning of facts or other people’s opinions.
And I have learned quite a bit wading through all the political crap.
I’ve learned that Ric is not nearly as “hard” as he first appears. When he takes the time to properly explain his positions I can respect them, even if I disagree.
I’ve learned that Ken and I don’t think too differently 90% of the time. I never realized 10% could be so huge!
I’ve learned that I rarely disagree with Jerry Bowers…even though we both see “ourselves” on very different sides of the fence.
I’ve learned that good people can have vastly different opinions…and that doesn’t make either of them bad people.
I could go on…but I should have made my point.
Active political threads are better than having no active threads at all.
Ralph

BTW Jon,
Post something on Trains and I will be more than happy to participate.
And for the most part…we are a bunch of old farts.

I have a life also. This morning read the paper with my wife, then I worked out a good way to play Gershwin’s “Somebody Loves Me” on the guitar. Found the way to play the melody, the chords, and a moving bassline at the same time. I played with my daughter for a while, I yelled at my son for staying out too late last night then I went down and checked the fit on some styrene roof pieces for a model I’m making. I enjoy political discussion–it just adds to the range and quality of the life I’m already having.

but thanks for the advice

What did you do this morning?

I agree with you Jon and I’m just as guilty as the rest. Good advice and I’m gonna take it!

Thank you for the kick in the ass!

Sorry to hear that, Ken.
I enjoy and learn much from your political posts. I will miss them. The point is not to change our minds…but to make us think.

I worked on my GRR most of the day yesterday…and will do so most of today.
Usually check LSC when I come inside to cool off for a bit.
Ralph

As someone mentioned earlier, there are other forums for political discussion and as much as I’ve enjoyed these with you, Mike, Dave, and Steve, and the rest, there’s seem to be some that get a little heated and don’t have much thought put into them. So before we end up pissing Bob off, I’d just like to extend my thanx to those I’ve mentioned for putting up with my blathering and hope it hasn’t caused any hard feeling.

Jon,

I enjoy the bantering, I’m sorry you don’t. Since Friday, I have been still rebuilding the “Timesaver”, it has to be done by Octovber 2nd, and I’m on target to complet that. I also operated on an HO layout, for 3 hours Friday night, plus worked 3 hours at the Carlyle Street Fair, helped Jan with her booth and visited with my Father in Law and his problems with taking care of his wife. I work my job and check what is said on the forums. I’d much rather talk trains, but not much of subject line going. I’ve posted a number of threads about prototype railroads and replied when appropriate to others postings. My back can only take so much working on the railroad and I check the postings while having a cup of coffee. I certainly don’t mean to offend you or anyone else, its just enjoying life.

In between my blatherings on here I’ve been working on a 2 stall engine house. When it gets to the point where it doesn’t look like a lot of scrap wood thrown together I’ll post some pictures.

I guess it’s up to you and I to carry the torch, Ric.
It is enjoying life and educational as well.
Sometimes somebody might get a case of the “ass”(myself included), but it happens just as often when discussing track/battery power, operations/roundy-round, or scale modelers/what works for me.
Ralph

Friday night I worked until nearly midnight preparing roadbed for the Potlach and Boville Southern. At least, that’s what I’m calling it this week. Saturday, I did some more Gandy Dancing, and then planted about 60 trees of various ilk. It is now 1222 on Sunday morning, I was too sore to go to church, I’ve just had breakfast, and I am heading out to lay and groom some ballast.

Thank G-d for Ibuprophen! Better living through chemistry!

Even though I haven’t been a participant in these discussions I have thoroughly enjoyed following them. No they probably won’t change anybodys mind but they certainly make you think and for me, make me do a bit of research of my own.

Some of these discussions have gotten a bit raw, but it is obvious that most of these guys enjoy this. Some of it has been pure BS, but there have been a number of these topics that have really turned out to entertaining as well as informative.

It’s great that they have a place to do this and they’ve kept it fairly civil.

David

I’m sure most of you have wonderful lives. The topic title was meant to get attention, and it worked.

My point wasn’t to ban or limit the political discussions, and I never said I didn’t enjoy reading them. My point is simply that this is a train forum and it’s sad that all of the active topics listed on the home page are political debate.

I’m glad to hear that most have you have been busy on your railroads in one form or another. All I managed to do this on my RR this weekend was to keep the indoor layout from flooding by maning the shop vac and submersible pump all night. Today we begin to start cleaning up the storm damage outside. It’s a good thing that tropical storm Hannah fizzled, otherwise I’d be writing this from the boat

So how about for every two posts you make to a political topic you make at least one to a train topic ?

What did you do this morning?

Well, first thing I got up and helped my wife tidy the house after our ‘Japanese Evening’ with friends [yes, we actually have friends]. Then I made a litre of coffee in my Timmy ‘stay-hot’ mug and got my things together for a guest-day on our range and went off to do my range-conducting-officer duties.

Stayed there from just before nine am to just after two pm - rushed home and then drove fifteen miles the other direction to help dismantle 600 feet of our portable 7.25" track, load three locos onto trailers and trucks [one of them mine] and then come home in a torrential thunderstorm. I then cleaned three guns, then myself, and now I’m relaxing reading this stuff.

That sounds reasonable…

Jon,

Sorry to hear about your flooding.

On the subject of postings - did you se the one in Prototypes on teh EBT Box Cab? I thought it was quite interesting.

You mean this site is supposed to be a model train lovers website, to share and brag about things we build?
Hot damn thats a good idea!
And hear I thought it was Politics.com

Hey Mark. I've been trying to figure out where you're from. Is it: New York or Bust Never Yawn or Belch Naked Yellow-Orange Butts Next Year or Beyond (which could equally apply to my start on the outdoor portion of my railway)

Inquiring minds want to know.

I thought it might have something to do with his eyesight.

Large Scale Central.

24 forums dedicated to different aspects of model trains.

1 forum dedicated to anything else we want to talk about.

On my computer I have to press a button to get to any of the forums. The ones I don’t want to get to, I just don’t press the button…pretty simple even a caveman can do it…

Hey Ric -

Not to worry. Minor basement flooding that we’ve come to expect whenever there is heavy rain. My only mistake was not checking early. I could have avoided some wet carpet. Someday I’ll get the corner cleaned out where the water comes in and build a sump.

Funny part was we got water coming in under the back door threshold for the first time ever. New gutters went on a week ago and it seems when they back up it dumps right over the back door.

And I know that you know all about expected flooding

I saw the box cab post on the EBT list. Interesting.
