Large Scale Central

Garden Railroad Magazine.

Reduced the price to $20. For 6 issues. 1 year.
Have not taken it in years, will try it again.
Just a FYI for those who became bored with it.
For those who had other uses for it, still printed on slick paper, not good in the bathroom.
Happy Holidays,
Bill

Great I will have to check into this my subscription is about up.

Thanks.

Will be interesting, I got it from them, on line, they had always sent a monthly tickler I would call it.
For those who have been regular re subscribers, what will they do is the question? Will they leave your $10. In the street, give U the$19.95 deal?
Big time management decision at Kimbash publishings, meetings, presentations, hand ringings, reduction in bonus, this will be serious.
Wow,trouble with the followers, riots in the street.
Good luck,

And yet an all digital subscription is 6 issues for $28.45. Such a deal.

I think I’ll skip on both. It’s $25 for a freight shed here and I get 125 MB of storage and support the site. Plus I get a lot more relevant information.

So true. I have tried to support Mark’s endeavors, but the magazine really lost its charm to modern technology on the net.

Looks like if you subscribe to there newletter there is a offer for under 20 buck for now.
Ric Golding …ya, Maz. has been kind of getting smaller and smaller. Kind of wish they would get back to showing more on garden layouts like they use to.
I know my wife and some friends are not into a lot of tech stuff like we are, most don’t want to see them or could care less if not seeing any layouts or some trains in the Mag.

As a newbie here what exactly is the freight shed?

Freight Shed is picture (or any file) storage space on LSC. You get a small one free when you sign up; or can buy the 125MB size for $25/year.

I see. I believe I have been using the site incorrectly then. Should I be storing my files and photos in the freight shed and saving albums and what not for such things as my build log. What is the proper protocol?

I don’t think there is any “proper” protocol; it’s all up to the individual. For instance, I have my own web site and use that for a lot of my pictures that track my projects. But, I also store some pictures in my freight shed. Others use some of the “free” sites for photo storage.

I like this site a lot so, for ME, it seemed appropriate to be a supporting member. YMMV.

Devon, I started out with my album, then went with a freight shed when I wanted to upload a bunch of stuff. I also have a Flicker account, yes, account. I have a lot of pictures.

Just vegetation ?

The occasional outlet of the Cdn-based drugs/electronics/etc. store (London Drugs) stocks GR on their magazine rack, waaaay up top where no one can see it unless you have a real desire to hunt down the other kalmbach pub. So whenever I’m in that particular outlet and spot them hiding up there I take the whole pile of GR and put them down (bottom shelf) in a more appropriate section next to the multiples of …

Garden mags !!!

Not for kalmbach, but to promote the HOBBY !!

doug c

p.s. i dropped the subscription at end of 2010 they just seemed to start repeating themselves, but whenever I reference back into the 10yr of hard copy… the issue tends to be a good read ! Some people seem to watch a movie more than once (i can’t) but I don’t mind picking up a old issue of GR to reread (and look at the pictures)

Well, I like this site too and get way more info here than a magazine will offer me. So I will have to buy a shed as a post Christmas present.

I agree, Doug C. It’s been? 5 years, will look again for 19.95. My guess, nothing to keep my interest up for them in 2016 .
Wish sometimes, was further involved in this hobby. Problem it appears to be dying. But then so are all of us.

Yea, it is a shame but Uncle Russ is right, the printed on paper hobby magazine is a thing of the past.

Hence the demise of his superb publications.

As for GR I dropped my subscription in June 2013 and have not missed it at all. In fact I am getting rid of my collection of magazines that go back to 1990.

The Narrow Gauge Gazette is still on my subscription list even though it deals mostly with the smaller scales and I haven’t really used any of their articles in years for a build project. It is just to damn fine a magazine to not subscribe to.

This forum and a couple of others offer all that is needed by me for my model building and train running entertainment.

YMMV

Rick

Electrons in the ether will never replace magazines and newspapers. You can’t kill flies with a kindle. Well, you can, but only once. And you can’t line a bird cage with a monitor, though you might want to!

Sadly the only thing I use a newspaper for is for spreading out on my table to paint on. It the free paper that brings you all the advertisements.

Me too…a really well produced interesting magazine that I look forward to receiving as the publishing date gets closer.

Thanks Bob and Irene…

So, where does one go to partake of this twenty dollar deal?

According to Noel above;

IF you get the newsletter, you get the offer.

When I heard about and understood the practical need for the 10’ rule, I cancelled my Gazette subscription, I knew I would be conflicted. GR is fluffy enough and a source of ads.
