You may pour me a dram or three any time, Rod…!!!
I find “nutcase” to be quite fitting. for those that have not stopped by the website, I can not think of a better word to describe a person that puts a railroad in his front yard and close to 100,000 christmas lights up on his and two neighbors house’s with them all set to music.
So Pat, welcome to the nut farm.
P.S. I love the smell of two stroke oil in the morning.
Let me know if ever you venture over the pond then Fred. Its £30 a bottle these days , but for a VIP I could make an “effort”.
I thank you very much for the kind offer, Rod…
Zbigniew Struzik said:Zubi, We've been through a number of sites together and most definitely you are amongst that group. Good friends accept people they call friends with all our baggage, not picking and choosing because of preconceived requirements. We may be a rather boring crowd to some already, but we would certainly be boring if we couldn't express our feelings.
Thanks Ric, you hit the nail on the head with what you wrote (although I am not sure I personally belong to 'all';-)..., but I definitely consider you and other members of this site to be my friends, even if I poke fun or disagree with you or the others, on occasions;-))... I hope it is all within limits of good taste!! And it if it is not, I have nothing against being reminded. Anyway, I tend to think that only through open and critical discussion one can get closer to the truth, and keep the discussions interesting - and some degree of noise is actually stimulating for the senses! Plus, on a forum with minimal constraints and minimal moderation, the participants are in a better position to develop and exercise self-discipline and learn to moderate the discussions by themselves to avoid waste of time, rather than be subject to censorship, thread locking and the like... Best wishes from Tokyo, Zubi
What’s the words? - live long and prosper.
I have many varied interests. This is the only forum I participate on. Because the good people here express their opinion, whether popular or not, and stand up for their opinion. I find some of the most interesting people here to be the same people I disagree with the most. But politics is a small part of life. We still share a lot of common ground.
Here accomplishments are measured in effort rather than money spent. And those of us lacking in the talent and skill of others are not belittled because of it.
I’ve not personally met anyone here on the site. But I am pretty confident I would have a great time with most anybody here. Hopefully one day I will have the opportunity to meet some of you face to face. Until then, we’ll keep meeting here.
Ralph
Ralph,
You are always welcome to stop by if you are in the Greater St. Louis area (50 miles east of the Arch).
Ric Golding said:Thank you Ric. However, financial and time constraints will probably limit my travel to E. Tenn, NC, SC and Northern Georgia for the foreseeable future. That being said, should you be in the Western NC mountains, come see me. And should any of you make it to the Spencer shops, let me know. I'll do what ever it takes to meet you there, or anywhere else within a couple hundred miles. Ralph

Ric, Thank you!! I really appreciate your kind words. Yes, if I remember right you joined the Big-Trains Mailing List quite early too. I will always remember the kind gift you sent me - the K-27 plans/drawings!!! and an interesting authentic envelope - I forgot now which railroad it was from:-(. These were the days when K-27 in large (whatever) scale was just a dream, unlikely ever to be fulfilled, and these drawings helped me dream, I never build the engine, but I was increasingly becoming interested in collecting literature, especially locomotive drawings, books, and slowly, of course, locomotives too;-)! Of course I still have these plans and the envelope, but not with me in Japan - I hope one day I will get reunited with my collections now scattered across four countries… Anyway, thanks again for the kind words and if you ever come to Japan, please let me know! We’ve got plenty of stuff here to inhale!! Best wishes, Zubi
Geeze -
I like all you guys too, but this is getting awfully close to touchy, feely, kissy stuff
BTW - My excuse is painting a boat inside a plastic house. Burnt so many brain cells that I couldn’t smell anything for 3 years and now it’s marginal.

Jack Barton said:Jack, You are among several people who I would probably tend to disagree with. But I have no doubt you would be fun to hang out with. I agree with very little of what George W Bush has done. However, I think he would probably be a fun guy to go drink a beer with. That being said, I'm sure HJ will help return things to their "normal" state for you. RalphJon Radder said:I'm like you. All this positive stroking was scaring the heck out of me.

That’s right Zubi!
That and trying to polish our image over on the “other site(s)”. We need at least one thread that is a bit touchy-feely for those occasions when “they” think we have only “no-holds barred” discussions. Those “not true look at this thread” complete with link moments.
I sometimes wish HJ and a few others were my neighbors. Not cause I’m close to them or anything.I have a nasty neighbor thats a butthead they could really Piss Off better than I do ! ;>)
At least most of us are mature enough to have differences here and get along and enjoy a hobby. I’m sure we get along better than alot of our families do.
This gets to be more like ““Barney the dinosaur”” kids show everyday…
““I like you, you like me, you like him, him like you, but noone likes me””

Got that tune stuck in your head again, don’t ja? I hear you humming it every once in a while ;-). Beats “happy feet”.
