Hope you don’t mind my borrowing this for a bit Ken

HJ, I don’t think the sincere ignorance fits you, but with that last statement the ‘conscientious stupidity’ certainly does. Neither of your responses were called for or needed.

Edited to add this quote from HJ, 'Oh another thing, in this house PC still stands for Personal Computer rather than Politically Correct.

With this being Bob’s house and not yours, I believe you to be wrong again.

UK preserved railway near Stratford-Upon Avon…
Aerial FPV …

Train speed governed by law for all preserved rail unless special permission granted.

Nice video Ross, thanks for sharing.

Would a “Sorry I offended you” really hurt ones ego? And then to “call 'em like I see 'em?” That is uncalled for. Its not Politically Correct its just Good Manners.

In other news, I got the SRVP an ARES ETHOS Quad with a camera mout accessory for Christmas for about $130. I was impressed enough with the video and still pictures that I went out and bought myself one for track planning purposes

By all means…it fits!

Aside from the use of a wide angle lens, that video is beautiful. Personally, I don’t care for the wide angle look. Too much distortion. And while on the subject of videos, could all of you video makers PLEASE use a wind guard on your camera mike. I’d rather listen to a steam locomotive barking out its song than the roar of the wind across the face of the mike. Thanks.

Art, you going to get any pictures of the San Andreas Fault around where it crosses the tracks in Cajon Pass?

It would seem that wide angled is best for FPV as it suits the guy wearing the goggles for flying the thing as tho’ he was in the pilot’s seat.

It is very easy to lose orientation without them even using a small TV screen the size of a tablet and if no goggles or screen picture it could be a crash thro loss of orientation.

As regards the mic…these are very small lightweight cameras (board CCTV types or Go Pro) which don’t have fidelity quality sound and the mic is usually inset so no chance of a sound baffle really. Its sometimes windy up there when not so on the ground.! In fact I have a key fob sized video camera (cost $5 for two inc post from China) excellent quality video…total rubbish sound!! Quality depends on who manufactured the keyfob…,they are all at it in China!!

The house I’m referring to is the house I live in. To this forum I refer as “this forum”, not as this house.

As I dare to observe quite often “Those who can read have a clear advantage.”

I don’t think so, looks like Manuel who does the manual labor.

As it is so very often, context is everything.

We know you are a well educated and intelligent individual…and folks that know me can affirm that I am FAR from Politically Correct…But in what context would that comment have been appropriate?.. Is it REALLY TOO MUCH for you to say “I’m sorry”? My 3 y/o granddaughter knows how to say it and uses it appropriately in a sentence…

Been using one for some time (2011). Actually the shotgun mikes I’m using come with a “foamy”, I can select wind noise canceling on my Panasonic cameras and SWMBO made a “furry” to fit over the foamy.

Back when I used the Canon FS-100 it was a real problem, since I relied on the built-in mike. Filming in the BC canyons was a real “experience”, OTOH watching a video with the grass a-blowing and the tree branches flapping without some wind noise doesn’t seem realistic either.

I’m sorry Bart. We have a difference of opinion on this one. and here is the context http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=manuel+labour

It appears there’s a difference of opinion with a few more people then just one. And if you have to go to all that trouble to try and explain away a bad joke, then it’s not much of a joke, is it!

It is also possible that more than one needs to lighten up a bit. It always amuses me when certain people weigh in on certain subjects. In which case I always consider the source.

As regards sources, the Urban Dictionary puts things “American” in very interesting contexts, very edifying stuff.

Need I say more…

Back to Drones; there are inexpensive ones like this http://www.xheli.com/walkera-w100s-rtf-24g-devo4.html controlled with an I-pad or I-phone.

The kind of "toy"to get your feet wet i.e. find out if you get enough use out of it. If not, trade it for a grain hopper car.

Or this one that does 720HD http://gizmodo.com/5931424/parrot-ar-drone-20-review-your-own-private-predator

Amazing how when you don’t alter anything in a quote, the context is different than when you do.

Good thing that some of us can read, and don’t need to try to change our postings to fit our agenda

Priceless! Do you have anything to contribute about Drones? The flying kind, not those who drone on and on and on!

BTW with that recent ice storm in Southern Ontario one of the flying railfans got out there and shot this
