First steamup

I finally got the pictures of my friend Joe’s first steamup of his Porter. (I think I posted pix of it sitting in his shop a while back) When I got there he was still waiting for another friend to show up to help make a rack for the back of his tractor to help him get the locomotive off it’s stand and on to the track. So, while waiting we took my freshly built phlatt car and set it on the tracks for the first time. We then took turns pushing each other back and forth on his 300’ of track that he already had down. A couple pix of it on track for the first time

Some old codger pretending to be Budda and sitting on my car

Joe’s other friend finally arrived and we got the locomotive on the track. Joe and that old codger trying to get up a head of steam

A proud Daddy and his new baby

It’s got steam now!

That old codger mooched a free ride

As you can see in the last picture, Joe needs to make a sliding hatch in the roof so the engineer can see what he’s doing without twisting around like a pretzel…we won’t mention burnt fingers :(.

Mornin’, Warren. Tell your grandpa to get a haircut before we come visiting, eh? [cakil]

Lovely looking locomotive, BTW, makes our black ‘Romuli’ look real dull. How is it fired?

The phlat car also looks VERY good in the sunlight - would be nice to see the plans over here, if such things are available - sending the kit here would be WAY too expensive to even think about. Do they do a caboose, ig wants to know?

Best wishes

Now that’s one fine lookin little lokie…!

Two grown men (scratch that - maybe we should just say larger people) pushing each other around on a flat car. That just tain’t right. Why do the best pictures not make it to the camera? That just tain’t right.

Terry, Unfortunately there are no plans for the phlatt car nor is there a caboose available…from them. My winter project is to design and build a caboose. I’ve got everything already except the wood. On the caboose topic, I’m still half tempted to build an Australian sugar cane style bogie brake van instead of the caboose.

Boy, talk about Geezer Gauge! Is it finally big enough to see to get on the track?

Way cool. I still would like to see the photos of two silver haired boys pushing eachother on a phlatt car.

The problem was at the time we did that there was nobody around to take the picture. I’m sure that over time we can arrange something. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yup, I’m the old codger that looks like he just walked out of the woods to civilization for the first time in his life…:expressionless: I can’t ever seem to remember where the barbershop is…

Do you have money left for that??

You need money for a haircut…??

Not at Madam La Guillotine’s house. She will shave you close.

Yea, a little too close for comfort…:frowning:

Warren, Not me, always have money for a haircut; spending the time waiting, well that’s another story.

Being deeply Canuckian on my outlook on life in general, that is to say, ‘thrifty’ where possible [I only buy second-hand Aster stuff, please note] I refuse to pay for a haircut when I have a ‘bought n’ paid fer’ wife with the skills to use a $10 Sears Home haircut set, and the nerve to use it on what remains of my former locks. I have NEVER had flowing locks in my entire life, public school [that’s private school to the US readers] and then the Army saw to that. Now I have what can charitably be called a ‘pie-crust’ hairstyle - it just follows the edges of my headbone. Over here in currently-sunny UK the average haircut costs the averagely-furry-headed joe around USD$25, not a sum I care to give someone to take something off me. tac www.ovgrs.org

Terry, From what I heard it is more for those with less hair because the barber spends the extra time looking for it.

When I lived in Tokyo for most of last year I had to pay a local Yingtongite for the privilege of barbering the remains of my erstwhile fur.

Taking pity on a poor furriner, and also taking into account my advanced years, he showed his respect and deference by only charging me $40.

Be grateful that you live in a cheap society, even though you have to go to Kelowna to get the job done.

Hehehehehe

Yeah that would be the day, drive to Kelowna for a haircut!

Cheap society…?? Terry, you forget one tiny bit that goes with a cheap society…even cheaper wages…:frowning: When it comes to cost of living…it’s always a loosing situation.

Your flatcar looks great, Warren! As for the Porter, it’s simply incredible!
