Large Scale Central

First laser building project

David, thanks very much! And seriously, I wish I had the time, I’d send you some, and send John the kit he asked for.

John, no flashing, but I still need to make & add the ridge cap strips and – last touch – fit up the stack.

Thanks guys!

Um… Mr. Modeler?

I was thinking of more than one, as in, we could make a fortune selling them and you can easily resize 'em to all the scales…

Now is that a compliment or what?

yeah I know it’s a no go, every body would want a cut.

Very kind of you John, thanks.

Gonna add copper flashing so the patina will blend in?

Must be nice to model the ‘hey day’ of the mine, on my pike the blush has faded and we are on a ‘get by’ frame of mind …

John

John, so you are also on the “Deferred maintenance” plan.

Well you know how it goes; the Wulfenite petered out, but when we went to seal that bore we hit a silver vein that paid for the new alignment and bridges through the Narrows. Right after driving the silver plated spike, those fools in Warshington tooks us off the silver standard and we was broke again.

Sad but true.

If it breaks we try to do without…

Cliff

That looks SO good!

Jerry

Very nice Cliffy! What’s up next?

Chris

My grandmother had asbestos shingles as siding on her house. I had asbestos tiles on the floor of my bedroom. We both survived, somehow. Probably because we didn’t grind them up.

Nice job, Cliff. Thanks for sharing your methods. The roof really makes the whole structure come to life.

Hi guys, thanks so much for all the kind remarks!! Sure means a lot.

I finished the ridge boards and chimney last night. I cheated on the chimney base flashing, and just let it rest on top of the shingles (the shingles shuold be cut to butt into it, but I’ll admit to a little impatience to gettin er done).

I haven’t yet done any inking on the shingles; the engraving tended to leave a dark line, so the grain is somewhat visible. Might add it, not sure. For that matter the whole exterior needs weathering, especially some dirt near the ground and on the white trim. I’m still on the fence.

And, I’d like to move onto the main project, for which this was to be a test. Chris, it’s one of the Comstock mines, either Savage or Hale & Norcross. I have the concrete foundations poured, the windows & doors cast in resin, and the initial design done. But the models were based on 1" foam substructure, about 3 years ago; and they need serious rework for this move evolved approach. Probably take me a couple months to finalize the model and cutting patterns, we’ll see.

Thanks again!

Or, you could just plant that outside as is, and let that mother…nature dirty it up for you.

I should probably do just that. Linda wants it out on the layout, and it’s sure to get grimy real quick. I need to get to the main mine structure; and I need to quit obsessing over the “clean” look of this shed because that’s going adios after a month out there in the dirt.

So thanks brutha Maynard for helping me make that decision!

Cliff, anytime. Anytime I can suggest that someone not do anything, I will. It’s the Butt Modeler in me.

Now I know exactly who to go to!

Remember, we are all in this together, and I am pullin for ya.

Thanks Brotha David!

I’ll be taking on a new building project, so am starting a new thread:

Sure, make me look bad because I have been butt sitting, honey doing, and traveling for work.
