Coming back from town I noticed my weeping birch was in full fall colors. With the bright sunshine and clear skies it was a sharp contrast to it’s surroundings. Most else had yet to really start turning.
Beautiful, Warren.

What’s that small bright red shrub in the background?
Thursday we drove up to Julian, a small former mining town in the local mountains. It’s now known mainly for heavenly apple pies. Saw quite a bit of color along the way. So. Cal may not be as autumnally-endowed as other parts of the country but we do get a surprising amount of color in the fall, especially in the mountains. Once the weather gets a little cooler we’ll start to see some color near the coast too, from the native sycamores in the canyons and from the many non-native trees in people’s yards. The “liquid amber” trees are my favorites.
Don’t know what the red bush is. It belongs to the neighbor.
Great stuff Warren,
I drove along the Coldwater Valley today, and later on up the Fraser Canyon. The colours were absolutely amazing.
No, I didn’t take pictures, the colours are burned in my brains.

No, so far it never has.

It’s know locally as a “burning bush”. Euonymus alatus
Lots of 'em in my neighborhood.

I’ll vote for the apple pie. We haven’t gotten to eat any of it in several years. Did you get to Cuyamaca?

Lovely photo, Warren. Oz doesn’t have the same beautiful autumns I grew up with in New York, and I do miss that. That said, I don’t miss the raking (or the snow shovelling)!!!
Hush now on that snow shoveling. We’re not getting enough snow this winter to shovel…

Bring on that freakin snow!
I want a winter like the one of '68.
I’m ready!
Laid in supplies. Got the loader fueled up. Got the blower fueled up. Got the generator fueled up.
We haven’t had a decent winter around here in years!

Gots to get me some burnin’ wood fer the stove, an’ some buildin’ wood fer the shop, then I’ll be set.
Already got my skis waxed.
Hold it, damit…I have the splitter in the driveway, along side the wood, but my motivation is still directed towards hibernation practise sessions.
Give me three weeks more and I might be ready for wood splitting, but let’s not get carried away with all this mad chatter about snow…
