Fall fell!

Gots to get me some burnin' wood fer the stove, an' some buildin' wood fer the shop, then I'll be set.
You'd better hop to it, Wolf! I just ordered a pile of scale wood from my supplier, and I'm ready to hole up in the shop. I'll be converting several lokies to Batt/RC and building some buildings for the layout. I'm replacing my Polaville and Pikoboro and Aristoburg once and for all with scratched up stuff!!!!! (I've already given a bunch away--you'll spot it next year on a member's layout.) I may order a few plans from Bob Kelley, too!

TOG

John, you were suppose to have your layout finished this year… Still no trains runnin’ and you are already talking buildings…

Too much work and too little time, Warren. :frowning: :frowning:
1/2 is built, the udder half next spring.
I spent all summer building trestles for the dang thing.
But the wait will be worth it!!

TOG

As you know, I’ve got my battery car now so I can go anywhere…and I’m waiting…and waiting. Just don’t make me wait as long as Chuck did… :stuck_out_tongue:

What do you mean, Don’t make me wait as long as Chuck has. I have track laid in my back yard Warren, where’s your’s.

Talk about the kettle calling the pot black!!! (hehehe)

Why I wouldn't want to break Chuck's record! :) :)

Next summer, Warren.
I’ve got to figure out some sort of industrial theme on the second half, so’s we can operate.
Maybe all of youse guys can help me out a little.
This has to be done before the landscaping so I don’t drop a boulder right where the “future sight of the Clear-water Canyon Brothel” will be.

TOG

But I have (or had) an operating indoor layout for the last 5 years :stuck_out_tongue: Currently I’m ripping up track to weather it before the weather turns south for the winter…and my new yard is built. Unless you are battery powered in 7/8ths or 1 1/2" scale don’t plan on running anything on an outdoor layout any time soon…

Why would you be tearing up track to weather it? Is there a protocal? I just do mine in place. Man sometimes I just don’t know what procedure to follow. Here we go again, another important thing in life that Warren and I aren’t going to agree on. It’ll end up with me calling him a “track wrecker” and he’ll call me a “rail ruster” or something like that. There is just no way we can get along. I try and I try to tolerate him, but he still wants me to spell “taters” with a “P”. Ohhhhh! the humanity.

When I first got into LS I would hand paint the rail with an artist’s brush. Darn tedious especially when I was tearing up the layout and moving every couple years…:frowning: Finally developed a spray-on method that I like much better. Since I have an overwhelming desire to live, and the layout is inside, I am taking up sections of track and taking them outdoors to paint and then replacing them. It looks better and is actually faster than the tedious hand painting. If it were on the ground outdoors I would just paint it in place.

Warren,

Is latex paint also a problem?

Latex paint wouldn’t be a problem but the only latex paint I know of in a spray can is the Krylon stuff. Not sure the propellant in the paint is non toxic and nonflammable. I also have an open flame furnace near by. Then there is the matter of over spray.

No guts! No Glory!
Give it a stab, Warren!

TOG

I’ll have the paramedics and Fire Department standing by. This should be fun to watch. Shall we sell tickets?

Hey, lets get all the trains out first! He’ll never know there gone after the fire & explosion.

Because this is a “family” forum I am censored in my response. But you 3 clowns know me well enough to know what my response is…:stuck_out_tongue:

Warren,
I had some flat latex paint mixed in a quart that is the color of “Rust”. That is even what it is called. I paint the side sof the rails with it in place before or after ballasting. Because of the tie plates, you don’t even have to be that accurate. I’ve even worked on it at train shows on the “Timesaver”, sure works easy and there is no smell.

Looks like the three clowns got mooned!

I’ve been down the route of painting rails and for me it’s just too tedious. It’s also next to impossible to paint the backside of the rails too. Only one side of the layout is accessible…the other being against the wall. Yea, I want the backside painted so I can take vids and not have the unpainted rail show. Actually, yanking up the track isn’t that hard. Everything is connected together with Hillmans so all I have to do is remove 2 clamps and I have a whole section of track. I’m now to the point that there is just a little left to do. We’ve got good weather coming next week. I should be able to get it done in one afternoon. Oh, and my track isn’t all one color…it’s 4 (rust, black, dark brown and tan).

Warren,

I am just about ready to start installing track on that Display/Switching layout. LGB turnouts and Aristo track … that means I’ll paint the whole shebang and then clean off what needs to be cleaned off. All this prior to installing!

Oh yeah, I’ll fire up the industrial spray gun for that, goes quicker!

Until you have to clean the thing. :frowning: I’m a firm believer in rattle cans where ever possible. My yard that I just completed was painted before installation. It’s just that when I built this layout the concept of weathering with rattle cans had yet to cross my feeble mind.
