F-40 in 1:29th

“Your inspiration ,goading, name calling, sending me to bed crying and just general input helped me build”

Gee and I thought our help didn’t matter!

I really like that. If there’d been a 1:29 F40PH when I started this mess, maybe…

Thought you might like these for reference… when they were brand shiny new:

Congrats, Rooster. I must have left before you put it out. My loss. We had a wedding to go to. Let’s just say I would have rather been in York.
Again, VERY WELL DONE!
Lou

Interesting…the heavy “screen” across the windshield.
Get back to work, Rooster
Ralph

Rooster,

Absolutely beautiful…congrats on the awards as well…definately well deserved.

My guess is there are quite a few of us that would like one of these.

Brian

A lot of the NEC engines had that … I rode in the cab from 128 to Old Saybrook once in 1990, and the engineman told me he’d had everything from cinder blocks to cordwood logs dropped from overpasses onto his windshield… also was aboard a train in the early 80’s that had the engineman’s side windshield crazed (but not penetrated) by someone with a .22 rifle on an overpass… ) the engineman was VERY happy to be alive on the platform in New Haven, with the round still embedded in the glass!

I think the MBTA still has the screens on a lot of their F40’s and similar that are still in service.

Great job, and well-deserved on the ribbons to go with it. Congrats. It’s been fun watching it progress.

This was the coolest thing though Sean…The gentleman in this picture (Ken Murry) stopped me at the show and asked if we could do this picture. He was one of the crew that disassembled, moved and restored the Lemo tower that now resides at Strasburg!!! NO WAY!!! He loved the model.

Way to go Roos!!!

Way cool!

Amazing what people can do with a 2x4 and a pocketknife!

Dave,
I just went back and reread the whole thread. Amazing modeling. Could you explain how you made the grab irons? Their consistency is astounding.
Dave

Small world, ain’t it?..

Dave,
I used 3/64 brass and they were all bent in a very crude manner one at a time in a vise. I did use a few that were off the USA GP9 but most off that unit were offset and not usable. I have a small bag full of the ones that didn’t make the build but figured I will eventually use them. I made the downward bend on the rungs with a piece of 1/2" angle iron in a vise and a hammer.
There wasn’t any planning or making a jig(no patience for that) I made most of them while being ticked off not having a solution to my windows. So I bent brass, got into a pace then just kept going while staring at the cab with rough openings where the windows should be.
