Large Scale Central

ER&I slug

ER&I yard goat needed a B unit or a slug for a helper. The ore cars were a little too much for the center cab.

So they found another center cab.

First thing to go was the cab itself. Along with the embossings on the frame. She’ll be re-decked with new steel decking.

Trying to figure out what to use to fill the gab, I decided on wood. (Why not?). I’ll shape it and smooth it and glue some details to it out of my junk pile.

Done for today.

Nice work if you can get it John. Looking good by the way.

very nice. i have a thing for slugs, maybe someday I will get the razor saw out.

nice start

Looking good John

Careful John! Now that you’re over 45tons, you’ll have to hire a second crew member!

Jeff, yea he could stand on the footplate, with a coffee in one one hand, and a cigarette in the other.

Just a little more progress. Fitting handrails, bondo-ing unwanted holes, etc.

I guess it technically isn’t a slug, but a calf. A true slug doesn’t have the prime movers, just traction motors.

Looking good!

That’s interesting regarding the difference between a slug and a calf. I never knew that.

I’ve read that before. Slugs also have a lower profile since they have no motors in them, just a bunch of weight with a cover over them.

Looks good John, not many people just model a calf.

That is a great idea, John… Very, very nice…

A true slug.

Is this like a Bos’n’s Punch, JB?

While I’m not a narrow gauge guy, this is a cool looking build and coming along nicely.

Thanks for the pictures.

Nick

Almost done. A little weathering and installation of the flashing LED’s are left to do.

Seems I can’t add more than one photo at a time.

Looks wonderful, John… great Job…
