ECLSTS

I decided to plan on attending ECLSTS in March. I think this will probably be my best chance of meeting some of you.
I was hoping to ride down on Amtrak, but as far as I can tell the closest station would be Harrisburg. I believe this would be too far from York.
My question is, what would be some nice Hotels near the show site? Need not be a Hilton, or Raddison. But I’d like to make sure I don’t end up in a “crack” or “hooker” hotel in the “hood” somewhere.

I stayed in the Holidome for all of the years I’ve gone, but the way that I was treated last year, I won’t be staying there any more. Bruce and I were looking around for other hotels, and there are a few around. Then there is the ‘official’ hotel, too.

I haven’t decided if we’re going to spend the night this year. We may just go up for the day. But, if we do stay the night I was looking at the Wingate: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/htid=1781078/crti=1/hotel-location-map

It’s not that far, and the price seems better. Another one might be the Red Roof Inn; but I get a little suspicious when the price is so much lower than the others.

Yes, I was wondering about the Red Roof Inn myself. Ratings are decent. But I’m not familiar with York. No idea if the location is in a decent neighborhood.

I stayed at the official hotel last year, the Holiday Inn Express. It was pretty decent and the breakfast was good. Do they have crack and hookers in York? Half the town looks a bit seedy but I never ran across any nightlife.

Been none since Hooters burned down :o

Red Roof Inn has, for the most part, good reviews.
Most do mention the traffic noise, though.

Bob - I looked at the service scores for the HOLIDOME and starting in March/April - their scores dropped like a rock. As a matter of fact - that hotel is in "FAILURE" as measured by my company's Guestview program. Definitely one of the lower rated hotels - it is rated 711 out of 815 hotels in the system...

The Holiday Inn Express, on the other hand, in York is ranked 479 out of 1518. It is considered “Commendable”.

Scores go EXCELLENT, COMMENDABLE, ACCEPTABLE, and FAILURE.

Anyway - your analysis of the Holiday Inn York seems to be spot on…they have issues and if they don’t correct them - they will lose the Holiday Inn Flag.

Just keeping you all updated on places to stay.

Be well.

I sent emails to both corporate and to the hotel directly. I never heard from the hotel. I still like their excuse for the room not being ready at 9 PM. “We had a lot of people check out today.” Now, who would ever think that would happen in a hotel???

Bruce knows my story, but I’ll post it here, too. I arrived about 3:30, room wasnt ready, “In about an hour”, so I went over to the show. Came back 5:30ish “room isnt ready, it’ll be ready soon” Went out to dinner. Back after dinner, room wasn’t ready, asked for the manager “We had a lot of people check out”. Finally got a room about 9:00 or so.

Grrr. Will NEVER stay there again.

you are nicer then me. had that happen to me once. they said they were working on the room and it would be ready in a hour. I looked at them and said great, I’ll go watch them do the work. the blank face was great. Funny how fast the room got done when they found out I was not going to wait some were out side the hotel and wonted to go see the maids clean the room. also I was not going to let them check anyone in behind me untill I got my room.

You should have called the 800 number...

Look - if you call the 800 number and it is a complaint - the hotel gets fined $150.00. They open a case against the hotel and the 800 number will try to solve your issue for you…

PLUS - the hotel has to respond to you and to the complaint within a fixed period of time.

We have pretty strict customer service rules.

As I said - that hotel has some issues for their scores to have dropped off so fast…

Always ask for the “manager on duty”. Get someone to correct the situation.

If you were to have called the 800 number [1800-Holiday will work - just ask for GUEST RELATIONS] and complained - that hotel WOULD have been fined $150.00.

They clearly broke a standard which states:

“Guests with confirmed reservations must not be required to wait for their rooms if they arive after the posted check - in time”.

Most hotels have a posted check - in time of 3 pm. Some resort properties have that time listed later but generally - 3 pm. That hotels is listed at 4 PM. It is usually listed on the resevation.

Regardless - they SHOULD have made some type of accomodation for you.

Hell, they didn’t even offer us free ice. To add insult to injury, we had to wait in a LONG line to find out our room was not ready.

As I recall, I did ask for the manager on duty…and I think he was just as inefficient, if not more so. But, he sure seemed sincere and even promised to call my cell phone when the room was ready. No, I never got a call.

Yes, they should have made some type of accommodation for us, but all they did was treat us like we were bothering them by trying to stay there.

York does get some crazies but where the fairground is and in the main square of town it’s quite nice.
I’m not real sure what hotels are there as I’m only about 20mins. away and have no need for one.
However if anyone is interested in a really neat BB in town Mechanicsburg the folks that bought the old Orris house have done a great job in turning it into a BB. About 20mins to half hour depending on which route you travel to York. Incidentally the Wingate here is rather nice!

Did the Roof in York for the Cabin Fever Expo a couple years back… didn’t expect much, so wasn’t disappointed at all, lol. It IS a pretty fair ride from the fairgrounds, tho, and Rte 30 traffic can be…fun.

Don’t forget to try priceline, expedia and hotwire…

As for Amscrap, it DOES stop in Lancaster as well.

Wasn’t thinking about RT 30 …Mik is right…try and find something off 83 if possible. Don’t think there is much on RT 74 though

Most of the hotels/motels are on the Rt 30/I-83 corridor and most of them are within a 15-20 minute drive to the fairgrounds.

The Holidrome! That is a sty of a hotel. I never felt it was cleaed as much as it should be. The soccer team kicking balls against hotel guests doors and walls and the lack of response I got from management didn't endear me to yje hotel either. Lastly I am still waiting for the cup of coffee I was promised at breakfast last time I stayed there.

I don’t have anything good to say about the other Holiday Inn I stayed at last year in Pennsylvania near Hershey. My daughter’s team decided to book there as opposed to the hotel they normally stayed at. We arrived on Friday early afternoon and the was a tray from room service outside the room next us with half eaten food in it. There was also a bag of trash out side the room two doors down. When we left Sunday morning they were still there. I spoke to the manager and he turned beet red. Then I complained about how they closed the food service so early none of us who came back from the competition could get food from the bar or the restaurant on Saturday night. Then because of Mother’s Day they wouldn’t serve a hot breakfast on Sunday.

The Holiday Inn Express that is the convention Hotel for the ECLSTSas been EXCELLENT.

The Hooters has been rebuilt and there was a visit from them to the ECLSTS last year. The restaurant also offered discounts to attendees of the ECLSTS.
