But somehow I always get the pregnant waitress…

Terry,

Hooters is on route 30 halfway between I-83 and rte74.
Trying to think of alternet hotel/motel locations but they’re all grouped together near I-83. I’m going over that way Friday and if you guys can wait they just put in a new hotel right at 83 and 30.

Dave

I see the Railroad Museum of Penn. is not too far from York. Anyone know how long the drive takes? I’m thinking of going the Sunday following ECLSTS. The museum will be open 12-5. Is 5 hours enough time to cover the museum?
Ralph

Depends on if you want to ride the train while you’re there. Strasburg is about a half hour to 45 minutes from York. 5 hours is plenty of time to cover it.

Thanks, Ken.
Close enough I can make more than one trip over there.
Of course I’ll ride the train

Mik,
The one time we went there approximately 5 years ago we got a preggo waitress as well . She had a mouth that would not stop. Never went back there.

I am surprised that more folks are not speaking highly of the HI Express, the official meeting hotel. It has recently been totally done over. So it is clean and modern. With lots of other show people there, there is lots of mixing time, at breakfast, as well as in the evenings. It is very easy to go right through town directly to the fairgrounds. Log onto the Aristo forum, and there is all the show information anyone needs for the meeting including contacts with the HI Express. Eventually, there will even be a list of vendors. I didn’t see any Hooters girls there, but had an excellent conversation with Brian.

Paul, The group I am with stays there. The staff is outstanding and there are free cookies when you check in during the week, We were also allowed to use the Breakfast nook at nite for a bull session with food and victuals. Also were given access to a meting room for a larger get together. It is easy to get to but off the beaten track. The issue I have is athat there isn't a dunkie's near it. LAO

I would stay anywhere for free cookies, and their cookies are really great. Hot chocolate chip cookies, Yummy.

OK - Since we are doing York Hotel reviews, If you want to class up a bit, you’ll find the Homewood Suites is a very nice place. We stayed there 4-5 years ago and really enjoyed it. It’s a bit farther from the fairgrounds, but is very quiet and the rooms are great. It is a little pricey, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it. I haven’t been back because I started hanging out with the retrogrades that hang out on this site and they were all at the Holidome in years past.

Personally I don’t think the Holidome is all that bad, but we did have to wait for our room last year too, but not until 9 at night.

I think the only reason we cling to the Holidome is the “intergrated meeting facility” so we could just stumble down the hall to our room after they threw us outta the bar. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend yet again this year, just starting a new job and all, perhaps somone could take up small donations for a hospitality room of sorts, something like Fr. Fred has been able to engineer in the past? Have them move out the beds and bring in more chairs. I’d be willing to pony up a $20 without even going! The fellowship and the drag and brag bit were always the reason I went…I think the only thing I ever purchased at the Show was some wheelsets…

I’m holding out for the WCLSTS.

Edited because I’m not a computer user

Thank you, Dave.
You have been very helpful.
Ralph

BTW-is the new hotel WinGate or WindGate ?

Ralph
Pretty sure it’s Windgate but I looked their # up on the net doing a search under windgate. They are not in the local phone book yet

Dave

Steve, isn’t the WCLSTS called the BIG TRAIN SHOW?

and Ralph, you omitted the HI Express. Their guaranteed meeting rate is 91.00. That puts them below everyone except the Motel 6.

Paul

Dave

Thanks for the in depth info on the hotels and motels.

The members of the Hudson Valley LS RR Club stay at the Carlson Suites, Though pricier than most, it has a great breakfast, its immaculately clean. has a Ruby’s next door for a decent meal, pool, hot tub, etc.

I stayed at the Motel 6 a few years back, Tough time sleepmg when the moaning and shrieks of paasion permeate the walls (LOL)

Pat

Pat,

Forgive me I understand the Super 8 isn’t much better. I don’t recommend as I live locally and don’t need to stay in these.Others have commented on various negatives and some positives about most on the list.
I was hoping those who have used any on the list would add a star rating for the benifit of all. If this is done, including any not on the list, I’ll revise the list for the benifit of travelers.
Maybe even get to meet a few of you during the show.

Dave

Just do this…www.kayak.com

Also - the hotel is WINGATE not windgate…

Also - just about every hotel chain has a “lowest internet rate guarantee” which pretty much means that the hotel brand website will have the lowest prices.

Looks like Studio Lodge just finished their remodeling. I don’t know that they have upgraded their services but they spent a couple months remodelingThey are located at Rte 30 and Toranita st.
Also, yes it’s Wingate not Windgate I stand corrected.
Anybody interested in 3/8" plywood for building? The York County Lumber Company has a good bit of 4’x46" pieces and 13"x 92" pieces all CDX prices are good tell them you are in town for the train show. Disclaimer is that although I work there P/T I do not recieve anything for your purchases other than the pleasure of helping fellow modelers. They are located on Toranito St 1 block south of Rte 30.
