I’ll drink his Ken!
I’m still trying to weasel a way to get there. Last year I found a route through Reading that’s just over 4 hours. I no longer work on Fridays. Matt is in this year’s HS play and it runs the same weekend and my son Aaron will be home from Philly that weekend.
I’m thinking early AM road-trip on Friday, no overnight, and heading home around 11 PM might work.
Edit: I just confirmed with Marilyn that there are no conflicts for Friday, so I’m cleared for take off
A couple of us have been talking about swapping some stuff. I know I’ll have some stuff in the “Alcove”. As I’ve stated, you’ve got to be willing to trust people a little, but it should be able to be worked out. Name and price needs to be on the items.

Im thinking about heading down friday only, although I will have to be heading back home by dinner time, have to work the next day. You going to hit I84 past Port Jervis NY?
Negatory good buddy That used to be my route prior to buying a GPS. Last year I decided to trust the GPS and it got me there over an hour faster.
New route is I-684/Sawmill to I-287 cross the Tappan-Zee bridge and head South through NJ on I-287 then West on I-78 to Allentown, then hit the 2-lane South-West through Reading and Lancaster to York.
From your part of NJ I-84/I-81 probably makes more sense than doing the 2-lane all the way (via Allentown, PA).
EDIT: Google suggests going South to I-80 at Wharton, then South on I-287 at Parispany. Then the same route as me.
EDIT 2: But if you re-rout via I-84 / I-81 it says you save about 10 minutes. That really depends on how screwed up I-81 is at Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. It can be a real challenge getting through there.

That’s the route I take to the Turnpike when heading up to Fred’s. Although I come up 176 to 222 into Reading.
After getting off 78/22 at the second lite there’s a shortcut down to 222 if you make that right. Takes you past an Industrial Park where Nestle’s is located. Little quicker than heading down 100 to 222. Less traffic lites and traffic.
Just my 2 sense…
Looking at Google, that must by County Rd. 3012 “Shantz Rd. / Spring Rd.”
Last year, the “To 222” signs led me to a 4-lane that was not in my GPS. I think that was the “Trexlertown Bypass” portion of 100. Google says the shortcut adds 3 minutes Probably because of the short 4-lane section.
Google also wants to exit I-78/22 at Rt. 222, not Rt 100. Hard to say which is better. Would depend on traffic.
EDIT: Looking at Google Satellite view, 222 is now 4-lane from I-78/22 to just past Rt. 100, or a little more than a mile East of where your shortcut connects with 222.
BTW - the 4-Lane isn’t finished yet on Google Satellite view, but those images are 3-4 years old now.
EDIT 2: Theres just a short section of 2-lane on 222 now. If/When that turns 4-lane it will cut my trip to well under 4 hours.
Ah, I see how your going now. 78 runs south of Allentown, so yes you would hit 222 first. I had 22 confused with 78. Should have consulted my map before inserting my foot… I just thought it might eliminate some traffic lights.
I should know better since I’m up that way a lot delivering tomatoes to a cold storage place in Allentown. And yes, that is Shantz Rd that I use. I couldn’t think of the name earlier.
I know the first year I went up that way to Fred’s I missed a turn to 78 and remember a lot of traffic and lites on 222. But that was 10 years ago.
CRAP!
Due to a family emergency, I’ll be missing my first ECLSTS this year. Sorry to all those that I was bringing bits and bobs to. Email me and I’ll send them out via mail.
Bob
I hope everything is going tobe ok.
I’m coming south from Rochester, NY. Any tips for a route from there?
390 south to 86/17 to Binghampton , 81 south to Harrisburg and then hop onto 83 south when ya get there. be careful around Harrisburg, it can get a bit confusing. Signs for I-83, I-76, 283, I-81
Don’t forget to turn right at the road past where the old barn burned down five years ago; if you reach the spot where the old mill used to be you’ve gone too far.
Dang Bruce yer helpful…
And when your on 17 just outside Sayre, there’s a big old wooden coal dock that’s just begging to have it’s picture taken. And Gary Lantz’s place is just outside Elmira, if ya need any train stuff…
4 days and a wake up and we are underway to York. It looks like an informal swap/gathereing is taking place at the Alcove around Noon on one of the days, so we’ll just say both days. Especially since the snack bar is right next door.
Jon’s not bringing any EBT stuff this time, so there may be a little more table space for a drag and brag or sell it for what it is really worth. All items are the owner’s responsibility, as far as security, collecting money and pissing each other off. There is always someone in the Alcove, but that doesn’t mean we are paying attention to anything and the doors are right there that nobody is suppose to go in or out of, but are almost like a second entrance. Looks like temps inside should be between 55 degrees and 80 degrees, so that is about right and unless the roof leaks, it will be dry.
Hope all are planning to have a good time. And those of you coming with a chip on your shoulder, we’ll have epoxy available to help you keep it there. No charge for the epoxy, consider it a free sample, liberally applied.
See you all there, well those of you who wiill be there Friday anyway.
I may bring some NIB Aristo/Delton cars to sell/swap. I’ll try and get a list over in For-Sale before Monday.
Things are looking better for me and I might be able to make it on friday. I plan on getting their for around 9 not looking forward to the three hour drive though. This will be my first show, what should I expect (I know a good time and lots of trains)? How will I know who everyone from the forums are when I get their? Ric: you mentioned you wanted me to bring my HLW Big John (dunkirk) Should I bring that inside with me or leave it in the car until I find where you are at? Im looking forward to attending and meeting everyone, if I can find yas.
