ECLSTS IN YORK, PA - 2019

Lou Luczu said:

Talked to Dan Viera from Star Hobby at the Greenberg Show today. He told me that the 2019 ECLSTS has been moved to

22&23 March 2019 by the new Manager at the York Convention Center. Will be changed shortly on the website and in GR.

I wanna thank Lou again for bringing this up, and so early before the show.

It just occurred to me that I didn’t have hotel reservations, and that the Wyndham might not be aware of the change. So I just called them, heard that they knew the ECLSTS show dates (the manager said 3/20 to 3/23). I obtained my reservations – for the $97 per night show rate. So, if money talks (referring to the discount), I think the new date is pretty solid.

About my list of Alcove suggestions, it was in response to the concern some of us have about the Time Saver no longer being there. I totally agree with David M’s post of 11/25, “The alcove was deserted this past show. Without the time-saver there is nothing to anchor the group to that location.” From that perspective, I was, like Lou, only trying to see if there were alternative “attractions” to the Time Saver.

Why would I care? Because three years ago when I went to York for the first time, I didn’t know what the Alcove was; just seemed like some dudes sitting on chairs. Two years ago, I had gotten into LSC some, and sort of got the vibe of the Alcove, but not quite. I’d never operated any model RR, so I just watched kids doing the Time Saver. Last year, armed with a lot of relational knowledge and hopes via LSC, I expected the clan to be there, and join in to some degree. But no one was there. Just like Maynard said.

All of that is in explanation that I’d like to help keep the Alcove going, and especially the D&B. I’ll be there a day early (Thursday), and can perhaps help in some small fashion then, or beforehand with arrangements.

OK. Reservations made - see you guys at the D&B at the Wyndham on Friday, March 22, 2019!

I agree with Lou and Cliff, It’s important to keep the Alcove alive. It serves as a great way for people to realize what a great resource is available to them in LSC. The more active LSC is the more it helps the hobby.

This brings me back to the question of what to do with the Alcove this year. It seams due to the rules in place it must be a display of some sort. There can be no sale or exchange of any type because it throws our group into the vendor category. With that in mind I would think the the LSC collective could pull something off with a bit of collaboration. Iv’e been amazed at the layouts that have been pulled off for 4 years now at the FEBT reunions, and they are nothing more than some track thrown down on folding tables. It seams most every one has a few odd pieces of LBG track laying around. Why not have some one show up with two or three folding tables of the same make, then have several others bring their extra LGB track, (mark the bottoms with a paint blob of your color) a few short pieces of rolling stock and a few reliable short battery powered locos ? Now we have a functional time saver. We can even go as far as to bring a few buildings and bits of scenery to scatter around. A new thread could be started to organize it all and make sure that there will be enough supplies on hand to put something usable together.

What do you all think?

What if you had a banner made-up to put on a table

and be there as …the forum ?

Heh, I haven’t been there for a few years, but from what I remember what you really need to do is just clone Ric! He is the one-man promoter of railroads with the patience of a saint in dealing with children of all ages. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

I like the idea of a banner. Then we could have an “Information Table”.

Anybody have connections in the Banner making Community?

Maybe Rooster would autograph pictures.

This is my version of a Timesaver. It is on a door, on sawhorses. Is it good enough?

Some buildings I spiffed it up.

I would need some help guarding it, but at least it would be something.

That’s great, Lou!

I agree with all you said, Randy.

And yeah, a banner… these guys print a 2’x8’ vinyl banner with grommets for $41 +s&h

www.halfpricebanners.com/

All those in favor of Cliff donating a banner say “Aye”.

Motion carried.

No sweat. Any if anyone feels moved to chip in, or not, that’s fine.

There’s already a LSC banner floating around somewhere. I think Ric may have it.

There’s also a sign around somewhere, too.

That’s a nice sign, who did the design?

Yup, I believe you are correct Ken. If he is able to come he may be able to bring it along if he can pull it out of storage in time.

Thanks for stepping up Lou! I think your time saver will fit the bill perfectly. I’m sure we can make sure that it is constantly manned. Do you have any objection to letting some of the youngin’s taking a turn at the throttle? (with supervision of course) I would also think you may want a more substantial end of track device. Maybe some 1x4’s the width of the door screwed on to each end to keep things from going off table?

I think we can make Ric proud!

I have no idea, Cliff. It just showed up on the wall one day. May have been Bob’s doing, but don’t quote me on that.

There is also a banner which we hung over the doors. It was similar to the sign but without all the Drag & Brag stuff.

We use bricks up at Bob’s, but sometimes even they are not substantial enough…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

When a telephone can’t give ya’ a hug !

NO Ric !!! You are in charge !!

PARTY !!! I can name them all can you ?

Yes Dad

Still gotta be the Drag 'n Brag, show or not show!! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)And the Early Bird meet…

If there needs to be an alternate Alcove “anchor” / drawing factor to the Timesaver, here’s some starter thoughts:

  • Free coffee
  • Swap meet (tables and attendants; people drop off their priced stuff and others can buy or leave offers)
  • Silent auction (ending Friday afternoon, pickup Saturday late AM?)
  • Drag n Brag: the Show Version (just models; description cards; vote on top 3 faves?)
  • Timesaver Jr: simpler version, sectional track on a table, mainly for kids to operate
  • Talk to the Rooster: a different kind of confessional booth (ok, just kidding there… )

No

No

No

Pass ( provided the beer “once” for the D&B but could not handle the demand for the local beer addicts afterwards)

Lou has it covered

You provide the booth (refrigerator boxes with steak knife windows cut out is acceptable) however it must include cigarette breaks outside with “ONE” of the High Priests named Ken in the parking lot.

If you can ignore all the touchy-feely stuff, you can see the banner in the background over the doors…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Sorry guys, I didn’t realize when I bought it up, but I don’t have a vehicle big enough to fit the base (an old door). So I can’t transport the “Mini-Timesaver”.

Make it to fit on a standard 6’ or 8’ table…
