ECLSTS IN YORK, PA - 2019

Well, there’s always a good explanation if you have the patience to wait for it. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Now I have to figure out if that’s a good date and who’s coming. More importantly, will there be a Drag and Brag?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Someone should talk to Star Hobbies, or whoever is in charge over there, and suggest that they at least give the impression that they know something about running the show, or at least communicating with the public…after all, without THE PUBLIC, the show is dead…

Someone mentioned that they actually were speaking with the supposed head honcho of Star Hobbies…well…call him up and find out what in hell the hold-up is…

If they were speaking with him…they know him better than anyone else does…so pick up the old fashioned TELEPHONE, and make the call…please.

If the hold-up is the web master…

…what stops the Star Hobbies guy from coming on these forum pages and posting a message ?

It’s all about COMMUNICATIONS…and in this case they are sadly lacking…I wonder how they manage to run a business…EGADS…

Gee Fred, clam down. Starr is one of the good guys, especially since they are keeping the show alive when it could have been just as easy, or easier, for them to stand by and let it die off. Running a business isn’t an 8 hour a day, 5 day a week gig. So the show prep and such has to be wedged into their schedule when they can. Very, very little in business happens “same day”, because there are usually other considerations to, well, consider. As for them running a business, they have been doing just that for a long time, and I for one have purchased a lot from them over the years. They recognize me, though they don’t know my name. Have you dealt with them? Do you have any firsthand knowledge in how they “run a business?”

Just have another beer and relax Fred, its going to be s a long winter.

The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!

Wolf!! Wolf!!

Look it’s yellow rain.

Glad to see maybe two posters who are not finding the doom and gloom in the possibility that life will cease if the ECLSTS changes the weekend it’s held DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND THEIR CONTROL. HELL it’s even got to the point that the second generation of family who owns Star Hobbies don’t know what they are doing. Maybe during the show all the bad mouths will come tell Dan and his family how terrible they are at business.

And remember your opinions aren’t worth the toilet paper you wiped yourself with.

I “highly commend” Star Hobbies for stepping up to the plate and taking on what needs to be done in order to execute such an undertaking. So why bitch about it however simply appreciate it ?

Or better yet come to the show and purchase from them to support the hobby. I personally have many times over the years, have you ?

This crap is what kills the hobby not promotes it! I wonder if anyone even bothered to send condolences to the family of Lewis Polk who was an icon in the hobby ?

EDIT FOR POST COUNT !

Re read it twice as suggested by the experts

I guess November 24 isn’t THAT long ago…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Of course they did! No offense, but were you asleep at that time? All kinds of thanks to Lewis on several forums and facebook groups. The Aristo forum was the natural place to see this.

Roosters too good for FB, he’s too busy looking at double rainbows.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Another week, and still no change to the web site. I’ve been trying to spread the word, but people are skeptical because it hasn’t changed.

I called Star Hobby and was told that it is moving to the week before.

I suspect that not too many people will do that. I think most will just go to the website and check the dates of the show there. I really doubt they will go to the web site and then think “maybe I better call Star Hobby just to confirm the date…” (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Yep, it’s now getting ridiculous since people plan this ahead and it’s not often changed from the usual date (or has it ever?)

In any case, no excuse for more than a week.

Greg

Dates on the website for ECLSTS 2019 have been changed to 22-23 March

For those that don’t re-check the website and already planned the 30,31st hopefully they will enjoy the Girls Volleyball Tournament…https://www.maplvb.com/

Well… unless you go to “Admissions and Hours “…sheesh

Guys -

First off, the show is at the mercy of the fairgrounds. The organizers could have decided to fight it, but the date was gone. Another date was offered. So this is what most likely happened next:

  1. Organizers contacted booked vendors. Who can move, who wont move and will not be there.

  2. Contact vendors who were not going to be there. Can they make the new date now?

  3. Contact clubs who were going to display. Can the make the new date?

3a: Contact vendors suppling show cars / shirts / etc and see if they can deliver for a show the week earlier.

  1. Sit down and decide if they can pull off a viable show.

  2. Go back to the fairgrounds and negotiate new terms for the show on the new date.

  3. Execute new contract.

  4. Make announcements and update web page.

Unless the organizers make a public statement, we will not know how close we came to not even having a show.

Concert dates get re-scheduled. Football games get re-scheduled. Baseball games get rescheduled. Rocket launches get rescheduled. IT HAPPENS. I give the organizers credit for not doing knee-jerk reactions to the change and not working through the process.

And, as full disclaimer: Star Hobby is my local hobby shop. I have made numerous purchases from them in at the store and the shows. Since they took over the show it has been run smoothly and professionally.

The information came from Star Hobby, the organizer… so why the “delay” between telling some people and updating the web site? That’s the rub, not the process of who to talk to …

Since the information came from the organizer, you would assume steps 1-5 were done and probably 6… so while I think we all appreciate the effort to put on the show, the complaint was telling some people but taking a week to update the site.

If we were at step 1, I would have more sympathy for the delay, or if the date was a year away, or if this was a common occurrence on this show. But none of those mitigating factors are true.

Greg

As I tried to suggest, originally, and was shouted down over it…

COMMUNICATION is not one of Star Hobbies highlights…

Even when they originally took over the show, they didn’t show the brightest light on the block…

Several calls were made back in those days, suggesting that a small “Free” presence was available on LSC, to promote the new ownership, and to open up communication, was ignored, even after having the supposedly friendly telephone conversations.

I stand by my statement…POOR communication will be the downfall of the ECLSTS; not any of the complaints made here.

As far as using the services of Star Hobbies…YES, I have purchased from them, and have no complaints.

Fred Mills

Fred you started out saying that they needed to communicate better, then you went off the rails implying that they didn’t know how to run a business.

I wonder how they manage to run a business…EGADS…

I didn’t shout, I merely suggested that you relax.

So, are we for certain now that it is March 22 23?

Does anyone know who runs the websites in question? Someone should contact the sites and let them know of the discrepancy in dates, on the sites that still have the previous dates in them.

I hope the flak here is not spread over other areas of the hobby. If it is then it would not surprise me to hear that there is no East Coast Show in 2020.

How do they manage to run their shop business…I guess as stated elsewhere, the show is not important enough for them to be bothered working on in a responsible manner.

As also pointed out above…why are dates on the web pages not up to date…does it take more than several minutes to properly update the information on the web page in a timely manner ?

I stand by my original statement…their communicating skills are not their best image…and I’m not shouting. I’m just observing…

For those still intending to attend the show…I really hope it is successful, and that you all enjoy the opportunity. I hope the Alcove is filled with great people, meeting, and greeting, along with sharing, and caring. I hope the Drag and Brag is also a great success…and continues to be the great social occasion it has been in the past.

I sincerely wish I could be there. A picture or two of the Alcove, and the D&B would be greatly appreciated by those of us who can’t attend…thank you in advance for them.
