ECLSTS - an LSC Happening?

Ken -

Ya got me thinking, but I have to admit I’m not a Motel 6 kind of person. If I were to take a hotel room, it would be at the HI with everyone else. Internet rate there for a non-cancel-able reservation is $147/night with tax.

So I whipped out the calculator to see if perhaps I am nuts to pull 30 foot of motel room 600 miles round trip at 6MPG and $3 gas + camp fees Vs. the SUV alone at 15MPG and $3 gas + a motel room. Guess what, the RV wins by $170.

Now, if I were a Motel 6 kind of person it would defiantly go the other way. Your rate is close. Their website says $54/night with tax (avg.), $112 more to pull the RV than to stay at the 6.

The advantages of taking the RV to me are not only financial, it’s cleanliness and convenience too. I know the last person that slept in the bed and how well the bathroom was cleaned last. It’s also real handy to have a place to rest or use the bathroom while on the road without finding a rest area.

Compared to a sleeper cab on an 18 wheeler, Motel 6 is like the Hilton…

At the very least ya don’t have a reefer unit throbbin 4’ from your head…

On the rate I guess mine was the AAA, but I may have had the incorrect dates …

As for the campground, at this time of year it may be closed down for the season.

I’ve learned that the truck park at the rest area isn’t a good place to try and sleep for that exact reason. Some of the rest areas can be noisy too. Most Wally World parking lots welcome RVs for short overnight stops. They are A LOT quieter.

Thanks for looking those up. I’ve got all the directories and have been looking around. Most don’t open until April 1st. Indian Rock was the one year-round place I found that was reasonably close. Their website is back so there is hope that they are just in winter mode and not disappearing.

Jon

OK…I’m convinced. Reservations made at Holiday Inn 2000 LOUCKS RD. Friday night.

One more on board

Waffling some more I made a cancelable reservation for Thu/Fri/Sat nights at the Holidome (Loucks Rd. HI). Once it gets close and I can predict the temperatures then I’ll decide if its RV season or not. The biggest reason for bringing the RV was to have it at the fairgrounds, but without running water that’s less appealing. If we camp 20 minutes away much of the advantage goes away.

On Sunday we plan on going to Strassburg RR and maybe the PA RR museum.

Jon

Personally, I’d make sure to see the Museum…the RR is so-so…

Same here, Bruce. I’ll be arriving my usual 4:00 or so Friday… see you there!

I've done both an I agree. Lee wants to take some pictures at Strassburg and I'm OK with that. I rode the RR and last summer but the last time I was at the museum was 1995 and Matt was 5. He got bored after an hour. Would be nice to be able to poke around there with no one sayin' "come on Dad, let's go"

Then you get "Come on, Granpa, let's go". Or worse, having to retrieve little Fred from his enthusiastic dismantling of some irreplaceable exhibit :P

I’m sure that’s inevitable - but it looks like I may get a few quiet years. Aaron isn’t serious with anyone at the moment and Matt is still a bit young (I hope). But the best part about grand kids is that when you get tired of them you can send them home

Chris,

It’s all a matter of “sufficient distance”.

True, true :D But since "little Fred" sleeps in our room, whither I have just carried him, distance is something for another time ;)

Well, then you'll be impressed with the Museum. They have a lot more under roof and a LS layout for the kids to play on. That time of year shouldn't be a problem Traffic-wise either...............I've gone through Strassburg during the tourist season and cars were backed up from the traffic light in town clear past the RR.

There are 3 weeks, 3 days, 13 hours, 43 minutes and 3 seconds until York.

who’s wearing a LSC name badge during the show - lol

Me!

Me too if I can remember it  Come to the alcove at the far end of the layout hall. There you’ll find Ric Golding’s timesaver layout and maybe an added module that Bob was talking about building. On the other side of the alcove I’ll have a table for Modeling the East Broad Top. Everyone is welcome to bring and display their EBT models. Also in the alcove Bob Temper with be demonstrating the art of making your own figures from tin foil and Sculpy clay. Most of the LSC regulars that attend the show stop by for a few minutes or a few hours  From last year’s Report from the Alcove by Ric Golding… Ric training a future engineer…

Neat! Can I bring my EBT Boxcar? I was thinking of entering my motorcar in the contest, but it doesn’t seem very secure - so maybe I can bring it to your area? It’s not QUITE the M-3…
