ECLSTS 2012

So what are these mandatory events?

Steve,
Usually they are orientations. They talk to the kids and make sure they’re not having any issues with their host family/school.
Or any issues with being away from home.
However, it’s not all business and they have activities planned for the kids. They enjoy it, as they have a chance to get together with the other AFS students.
It’s all done with volunteers and no tax money.
The protocols were established by our State Department with the various countries participating in the program long ago.
Ralph

Bob: Have you fixed the problem with being able to do a nametag and put my wife’s name?
Thanks, Lou

I just found the piece of paper in my jacket pocket when I wrote down who was who in the picture I took the first time I met you guys. Now I don’t know where the pictures are! I will look in the usual place on Friday morning.

Our government is involved in this through the State Department? That sure says a lot. Thoughts of corruption, misrepresentation and graft immediately come to mind, along with great spending of tax dollars. All of these young people would learn a lot more about real life, attending the ECLSTS and experiencing the diplomatic challenges between States and even Countries that are soothed with libations instead of diplomats.

If it helps Lou, you took my pic while in the alcove. :)

That's because Ric hits him with a truck.

2 weeks and 2 day to go…time flies when your having fun…

Hey All; Have any of you ever seen any of these “feldbahn” type side-discharge hoppers from LGB for sale at recent ECLSTS events? (It’s the green car in the photo.) I only have two and would love to get more, but I don’t think they have been produced since 2005. Color does not have to match the two I already have. Anyway, if somebody saw them with a certain booth last time, I’d appreciate a “heads up.” I realize they may not have them at this event, but it gives me some starting places.

Thanks, David Meashey

That’ll give ya a good excuse to browse the vendors…

Dave, they are not on my list for freightcars, so I can’t say… If I don’t recognize it as something I’m interested in, I just pass them on by… sorry, can’t help ya…

Now, if you put a haystack on it, I suspect his interest might increase

They are known as Gable Bottomed hoppers to the industrial modeling folks…they were all the rage for the 7/8 crows back when I was dabbling with that scale…not sure if it helps…

(perk) did someone mention a ""Haystack""??? :)

Okay, thanks everyone.

Thought it was worth a try to ask. I’ll have a look around for them this trip. Bart, I’ll also use the term you mentioned. Never heard them called that before, but it does fit.

Best,
David Meashey
