EBT Robertsdale Layout Build Log

Andy, ok then. There is nothing wrong with that I guess.

Daktah John, oh, ok. I actually named a rock “Prostitution Rock”, because with no visible means of support, it still would not sink down the inch or so that I needed it to. So, from your post, I see that I am not the only one who finds some rocks to be hard…to work with.

Hey Guys, I’m sorry, I’ll try to put my toys away when I’m done. But the 3rd member on the board of directors is very insistent on them. Yes Daktah, the hot weather certainly aids digging. Ric, the funny thing about the terrain challenge is the one big fantastic trestle covers it, and the rest is “flat”.

So I got busy Saturday in the wood shop making saw dust. I cut enough wood for 6 - 30 degree segments. After the cutting there was about 2 hours of clamping and screwing. I actually got the first section in before the end of the day.

Today I made great progress in between the rain drops. I got all 6 sections installed. Every thing went in really well and is very level. I think I’ll need one more curved segment and then a long straight. There may be some conflict with the next post needing to fall where the wall for the cherry tree is. If so I’ll do some slick engineering to get around it. I’ll be back on switches the next few days. Three more to build and I can lay the main.

I LIKE IT!

Although I would drill some drainage holes in it, looks like it could become a giant water flue in a rain storm.

That looks great Randy. I cant wait to see a train running.

Watch Rooster might use that as a roost at night.

looks good, Randy…

What’s that about 6’ off the ground on the far side?

The Augwick Creek Bridge! I’d recognize those scallops anywhere. Fantastic! If the water in that valley (what is that a river?) ever gets that high, you might want to suspend operations for a couple of days. Sheeeesh!

I really hate to say that I agree with Rooster, but that really might create a great water flume.

Well, the Ohio river is about 200 feet below us, so if that ever came up that much the tallest building in the city would be totally under. Our lot has 37" of elevation change in 113 feet of run. It’s fun to mow the grass. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Ken, yeah, it’s right at 6.5’ above the ground. The trof will be filled with crusher fines and the track will just float there too. There is plenty of gap at each section joint for water to run out. If needed, I’ll drill some holes too. I will be installing some sort of safety net in case things should derail on the trestle. 6 feet down to a 45% slope just gives me the creeps.

Not sure about nesting roosters, but there were raccoon prints on the first sections I installed when I got back out the next morning.

You agree with me all the time just not publicly where people know this!

Ya’ see Gary was there already!

I would still drill some holes in it before you install the track (only my opinion)

Wow, Randy! Pretty impressive. I can’t wait to see a train running on it.

-Kevin.

Ok guys, At this point in the day I’ll let the pictures speak for them selves. I need to get two or three yards of crusher fines. I’m out. The bridge sections will come out one at a time tomorrow for under side paint, drain holes and second top coat. I’m still working on switches too.

Gee Randy, you been busy. You make me look even more lazy then I am. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Nice work, Randy… Trains running yet??? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looking good Randy!

Cool

Thanks for the kudos guys. Saturday started out fun since I had some help painting. He was actually really good at it. when I would get over to his side he’d have a bunch covered, I’d just have to even out his brush marks. Got everything taken off, thoroughly 2nd coated and reinstalled Sunday. I even had enough time to finish another switch. I should have 3 yards of Crusher fines here for the weekend. To bad I won’t have any time to work on it this weekend. Wedding Saturday and EBT on Sunday.

Randy you have to get your priorities straight. Whats more important then getting a railroad built. A wedding and EBT? You could always take the 6 hour drive to my meet Saturday.

I know, I know, I won’t say anything about the wedding, but at least I bring lot of inspiration home from the EBT and I’m actually building the 1:1 thing when I’m there. I’m getting a good few hours of switch building every night so things are still moving.

As for getting to one of your meets definitely on the list. I’m thinking in the fall when I should have my Ruby bash done.
