Large Scale Central

EBT Robertsdale Layout Build Log

Sorry guys, I know this is going to be disappointing, but here goes…

It seems I was very successful in convincing a “local” company that they need my services. I say local very loosely since we will defiantly need to move, but that has been the plan all along right? So it’s with very mixed feelings that I’m now already packing up my switches and everything else railroad and starting in hard on finishing all the last things so we can get our house on the market. The silver lining is that property in the new area is very reasonable, and I’m sure we will be getting much more acreage that will some day allow Robertsdale to keep tracking to Mount Union.

My advise to anyone looking for work… Break ground on your garden railroad! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Randy,

Best of luck in the new job and with the move. If you want to get a layout going in the new location really quickly, you need to get a pink ball cap like Shawn V. has! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Good luck with the new job and the move. At least you still have a head start on building your garden RR.

When I worked for the phone company and had work to do is someone’s back yard, I would find myself wondering how I could fit a GR into it. I’m sure the first thing you’ll be doing is checking out space for the ROW. Makes it easier when you already have a plan in mind.

Sounds like you’ll be getting what you wanted sooner than expected. Good luck Randy(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Yeah, I’m pretty excited, this is a great company and it’s exactly where we would like to live. I’ts a minor setback for the railroad but opens the door to so much more. I’ll be able to take out the trestle and move it easily. Maybe it will come in handy at the new place. If not, you will see it in the for sale section at a great price.

Ken, That’s funny, I often do the same thing when peeking into other people’s back yards.

Well, that’s what you were waiting for. I don’t think your contemplation and work was wasted and experience is always worthwhile, good and bad. Enjoy the ride.

Congrats, Randy… Good luck with the sale and buying, along with the job… Will be looking forward to a new layout design…

Congratulations Randy, and my condolences. Thats great, and its too bad. Good luck, and you will eventually get over it. I am happy for you and I feel sorry for you.

No I am not confused, well, maybe I am.

Yup Ric, you’re absolutely right. It was a good dry run. I’ve got a lot better feel for getting the grades I want, and I did have plenty of fun even though I didn’t get a single piece of track down.

Thanks Andy, Really looking forward to house hunting (or ROW hunting) The design will basically be the same , it will just be a matter of how it sits on the new topography. Might be nice to extend it to include mine #5 too.

Thanks for the congratdolences David. Just reach up with both hands and grab your head. That should stop the spinning(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Good luck with the move and keep us posted Randy!

Good luck with the move and new job Randy. Things happen for a reason. At least you didnt get the entire railroad built yet and now with the new move you can focus on a permanent railroad. Are you saying in the same general area?

Don’t worry Roster I wont disappear from the site. You cant get rid of me that easy!

Right on Shawn, For those reasons exactly, I’m very well with it. I almost ordered the 4 tons of Crusher fines the day before I knew! We are only moving about an hour north, so fairly close. I just found out that we wont need to go till mid fall. That’s good since it gives me some time to finish the wood work in our house and a few other little things before we get it on the market.

I think I’ll just have to hassle Mr. Maynard some more since there will be nothing much going on here.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

That worked for me too, almost 10 years ago. But I didn’t have to move and the relief of finding work after a very long unemployment stint and a few days off before starting gave me the motivation to put construction in high gear (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Congratulations on the new job.

Randy, just call first. You are welcome over here.

OK, I can’t wait any more, plans fell through and we will bee here for the winter and spring. I’m not going to wait for the perfect time any more, I’m just going to enjoy what I have now. The truck got here at 9:30 with four tons of crusher fines. The ROW had been cut at the lowest setting the mower would allow and everything in that path thoroughly poisoned.

4 tons and a ROW

I rolled out some landscaping fabric and began carting loads of limestone down over the hill to load up the fabric. I also had a string run to gauge how high I needed to fill.

Just starting

Here Is the last shot I took before the sun fell to far. Not bad for one day’s work. Yes the tie strips are a pain to get on but I’m getting better at it. I’m hoping to get most of the main laid tomorrow. I have some early morning switch work to do while it’s warming up.

Snow is already falling in Northeast PA - best get a move on! I suppose you could try and come up with a plausible theory on how those plow blades stored in the wood shed were used on the EBT so you can run through the winter (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Looking good so far.

Today, he got a bit more done.

A big thanks to the fellow who made all that magical progression happen. David and I assembled and laid about 60 ft of track yesterday. The weather was cold and we had a few drops of rain here and there, but still got a lot accomplished. If it rained, we just went in to assemble more track. I wish I had made the height of the trestle a bit lower so I wouldn’t be building up the road bed so much, but it will all work out in the end. In case anyone is wandering, those are some old orange slices that I put out to deter the cats from diving into their new giant litter box.

This last picture may just look like a black void to a lot of you but to me it looks like #12 in full steam pulling the newly created grade. So fun to actually run it in my yard.

More like this?

Sorry, that’s the best I could do. The picture was taken is such low light that there is an awful lot of noise in the picture.
