Thank Randy for that photo story!
Looks great. Hard to believe what the layout started as.

impressing! and so speedy…
David Maynard dropped by yesterday morning to drop off my rail bender he had. I took the advise of the couple threads I saw lately and did some prep on the layout as it had been completely neglected since the 4th of July. One last task I was doing that morning, was to remove the drawbar pin from the tender on my #12 and solder a small plate to it. This would keep the drawbar from constantly falling off the bottom. This went well until reinstallation and the treads stripped on the tender. The tender had only thin brass tapped and I believe mine was a bit wonkey from the start. David and I had to settle fro running my sons LGB 2-6-0 with a flat and Bachmann coach. We had a nice visit and even fixed two spots that caused problems on my upper reverse loops. We flipped some rail clamps to align the rail head on the inside better where I had AMS rail meeting Switchcrafters. After David left I had to make a run to the Home Disappointment for lumber and picked up some hard ware to fix the pin problem too. David really served to get me a bit more motivated about running.
I soldered a brass nut to the beam. Then I ran a drill down though to open up the hole a bit for the larger 8-32 thread. Then I ran a tap down trough tapping the beam to match the nut. Next reinsert a new screw through the drawbar into its new home with a jamb nut.
Once I filed my solder some and painted it, you couldn’t tell I had been there. I really preformed well and is much more solid than it had been. Below is some video testament to it’s proper working.
Here is another run up the hill from a wider perspective. It really ran well for over an hour. This was by far the best run yet.
My son loved the hole that the steam dug when I was blowing down the boiler.
Here is a nice over view of the operation at the days end. Just need to take all those cars in now…
Nice!
Sure, blame me for getting you “a bit more motivated about running.” As King Butt Modeler, I am supposed to inspire people to sit on their butts. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Looks good. Sorry I missed it.
Edit four my spell checquer.
Good thing I borrowed Dave’s rail bender causing him to borrow yours and him having to return it to provide you with all of that motivation.
Great looking railroad!
I agree great looking/working rail road!(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Looks great, Randy. I think you need a pond inside that reverse loop. No, wait… a kiddie pool. Wouldn’t junior love that?
-Kevin.
What Randy really needs is spring switches on his reverse loops. Then he wouldn’t have to run back and forth to throw switches all afternoon. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Thanks guys, it’s good to be running. I got the lawn mowed last night and I think I’ll get the weed-wacker out tonight and try to stay ahead of things this time. David is right I do need some sprung switches on my reverse loops, but I’ll have to do some testing first. All of my equipment has a 2 wheeled lead truck, and I’ll need to make sure they can push the points.
For those that would like water features for my poor son, fear not, he has been swimming almost every day this summer at his grandparents very nice inground pool. Besides, if we stay too much longer at this house that loop will move 30 feet so Mine #5 can be added where the loop currently sits. Not likely but neither is me building a pool! That is a problem. None of my pilot wheeled locos can go through without derailing the pilot truck. All the 0-4-0’s, 0-6-0 and diesels do just fine. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)
Very nice, Just goes to show that its possible to put a track almost anywhere.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Joe, then your spring is too stiff. My locomotives with the single axle pilot, have no problem pushing my points over. My LGB Mogul has been running for the past 3 hours without an issue.
David,
Two of my “spring” switches actually have no spring at all and the pilot wheels still derail. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)
Then you aint got enough downforce on them thar wheels
