Large Scale Central

EBT Robertsdale Layout Build Log

Work looks fantastic, Randy… Some nice pictures… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Yea, what he said…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Yeah, what they said. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Randy, great job. Your yard grades are quite a challenge. An excellent accomplishment. I really like the location of the wye.

Hey thanks guys! Yeah the topography really can limit things here, but I’m looking forward to a lot more acreage that’s a lot less steep soon. I’m getting real tiered of mowing it all. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Well, Tonight…

What you gotta ask yourself cat, is…

Do you Feel lucky?

Go ahead, try and dig today.

I was so glad when I got this out. I figured I had better fix the spots she dug up so things were flat when they got wet. There were tons of places! We’ll she how she likes the motion activated eater sprinkler. Time well spent. Can’t wait to watch it in action.

Randy,

Just a heads up …

Do not let Jon R and Ken B operate that wye until you have a cinderblock installed at the end. It must be secured (by code) with 3" rebar down 96" into the ground. Those 2 together are incredibly destructive on end of track devices! ( there are pics to prove it as well)

Or at least “rumor” says there are!

and you just love spreading rumors, is that it?..(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Randy,

Very impressive! Love the cat solution. Thanks for posting.

Ohhh Randy

I can picture you, installing patios on either side of that wye …

Less area to mow and a great place for gatherings… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Well if that rumor holds any water then perhaps a sprung or cushioned EOT device might be in order. Regardless, I’d be happy to have either of those two gents over to run any time.

Sean, I think that might be very nice, but the reality is that those track probably won’t even be down a full year before I pull it all up. The plan is still to move before Fall of 2017. We might even be getting close to making a decision exactly where. I just wanted a bit more to play with until then. Not sure how I have missed this thread all of this time. Randy it looks like you have done well with hills that you have.

Very cool. You need to post some comparison photos - you’ve come a long way in a short time.

Pictures? I don’t remember any pictures (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Looking good Randy. I like the low shot across from the freight house. Looking really good. Is that a 1:20 coach, or are you (like me) getting by with 1:22 coaches?

Wow! An impressive amount of work there Randy. Kitties also do not like the orange citrus, nor hot peppers. You can water down some cheap hot sauce and spray it on the ground. It also keeps critters from eating plants.

The rumor holds water and if you have them over can I come too?

Lou, one time when I visited Randy’s railroad, he had orange slices scattered about. Apparently that didn’t work.

Ha, that happens to me all the time Mark. I run across this great thread and its months old. (not that I’m trying to imply mines all the great) Yup, from the beginning of building our place I’ve been intentionally carving out level places.

So John, those guys you hired to dispose of said pictures did a good job? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Yeah, that’s a Bachmann coach and an Aristo flat. The rest of my stuff is all 1:20 scale. That’s just Accucraft hoppers and Accucraft’s #12 along with my Ruby bash. I thought maybe since the would just be in the back ground the size difference wouldn’t be so glaring, but I think it’s noticeable. Some day I’ll be on building more cars…

Lou, Davids right, The citrus didn’t do much. But a pepper wash sounds interesting. The sprinkler does seem to be doing as good job right now though. I’m even toying with trying to grow some moss in there since is going to be moist often.

Sure thing Rooster, Ken said he doesn’t really mind us kids that much. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

If I ever get out that way, I’d be happy to drop by. Most of the time I’m way south on 64 going through Huntington, WV on my way west.

Thanks Bruce, And I agree with your suggestion. Iv’e done ok given how much time I actually get to work on it. But guys like Ken, Andy, Cliff and Shawn really get the go getter awards.

So, Per Bruce’s good suggestion:

PLRW Renaissance

Here is the first out door track I ever had. I had already taken out the lower end so that I could get the retaining wall built for the new vision. This photo was taken May 11 2015

IMG_1415

The first major task was getting the seven switches built that I would need for the main line and it’s reverse loops. Here in this May 24th 2015 photo you can see them in varying states.

IMG_1423

On May 29yh I was busy stripping the grass an preparing the ROW.

IMG_1428

By May 31st the tall Trestle was going in.

IMG_1738

I’m not sure what happened but time passed by and I finally started laying track in this October 29th Photo. I was lucky to have some help getting started. Thanks Dave, that was kind of a cold day.

IMG_1778

In this November 3rd picture the bench-work at the upper end was well under way.

EBT PGH aerial

And as this November 24th Photo the track is finally complete and running. It would spend the winter in this state.

IMG_2678Finally in preparation for the 4th of July 2016 festivities the wye has been added. This is probably as much track that will lay on this ground, and I’m glad I didn’t wait for the move. I’ve gotten to use it and have fun, and now it’s already to number disconnect and set back up where we land.

Good use of the space you have available…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
