Well, I stuck with the “applicator”. It’s VERY nice to have the paint supply right there… Anyway, a few issues. When spraying, some of the paint crazed in places. No rhyme or reason. So…being the ever diligent modeler that I am…I…uh…well…just…pretty much ignored it. I’ll treat it as weathering or rust or something. Heck, from 5 feet away, you can not tell. But, it’s getting close to having 5 more ready to join the EBT boxcar completed earlier.

Them’s looking pretty good. I see you know which end to mount the brakewheel, eh!
They still need a little more weathering, but I couldn’t resist the urge to take them out.
Thems purrdy…
Bruce,
Are your coupler installations and linkage working as good as you hoped for? Are they staying together when you want them to and coming apart when you want them to? Any thoughts of bringing at least a couple of them to the “Invasion of the IPP&WRR”?
Ric,
I’ll bring at least one. I need a van to take everything I’d like. I’ll probably bring 4 cars total, since that’s what a carrier holds. Not sure I have room for two carriers.
I’ve had some issues with the lift bars interfering with the coupler swing. I think I’ve fixed that, but still getting some derailments on two cars(120 & 124). I’m going to take a look at them and see what’s different.
The couplers take a bit more manual effort to close. But, once close, don’t seem to uncouple. Actually, I was having problems with them uncoupling from my boxcab, but on further analysis, the boxcab couplers were just about 1/8" too high. Just finished fixing that…so haven’t had time to test it.
Since the couplers no longer have a spring, they are not self centering - this means that they have to be aligned to couple. Not sure if I’ll try to come up with some sort of spring. Since my trains are short, it’s not a big deal to make sure that everything is connected first; and I find it sort of realistic ;). In fact, I’m experimenting with some tiny magnets to connect air hoses - just to have something else to do.
Daaaaaaaaam, Bruce, they look mighty fine!
I have mine…they are unpacked…IT HAS BEGUN!!! (where the hell did I put the brakewheel castings?)
Bob,
Can one still order a kit, or is it all over with?
