Large Scale Central

East Cost large Scale Show

Just returned from the show. This was my first time so I have nothing to compare it to, but It wasn’t as large as I expected & didn’t find many bargains. The venders were all very friendly. I also model HO & this show in no way compares to The Great Scale model show. What do you think?

I thought it was excellent. I actually saw lot’s of excellent deals on different things especially if you bring cash. I really spent no money but was fantastic putting faces to the guys here. Good time for me!

I see your point Jerry. I used to go to Greenburgs show and you had a lot of individuals selling used stuff with a mix of dealers. That said it did seem to be a little short on dealers today and not many bargains to be had. I stopped by “N.S.” Trains because last year they had a box of beat up Rogers engines for $25.00 each and I figured on a few for conversions. This year same dealer, same box $60. per loco and $45. per tender not much of a bargain unless they charge for storing stock.
I’ve been going to York for 7 years and though never much used stuff there always seemed to be some bargains or “show specials”.

Dave

This was my first show as well. Aside from the fabulous modeling on the layouts and the contest table, the vendor prices were about what I found online before going. I was hoping for some used stuff to rip apart and re make into the era I am modeling, but never saw anything. I still did some shopping as the list I had was long with a lot of little things.

I met a couple of guys from here and no one punched the other in the nose.

I did not see many bargains but I found some good stuff. I got to meet Ric Golding Andy Clarke and Brian Donovan, a great pleasure all around. Said hello to Bruce Chandler. I’m going back tomorrow with my wife, will probably do some more serious buying

One pic from our road trip to York I thot worth sharing.

Dave: Great shot!

Hey, did USA Trains (Charles Ro) have any expected delivery info about the new center cupola cabooses?

Thanks

I found several bargains on close-out AMS cars so I finally have a caboose for my F Scale train. Was good to meet some of the new faces: Brian Donovan, David Russell, David Maconi, and Dave Funk are the names I remember - probably left at least one or two out. I told David Marconi that I didn’t recognize him with a shirt on

Good to see old friends again too - Ric Golding, Andy Clarke, Bob Temper and the rest of the guys and wives from the Gateway Garden RR Club, plus Ken Brunt, Bruce Chandler, Paul Norton, Doug Matheson, John Cordini, Ralph (sorry I don’t know your last name) and several others whose names escape me right now.

I really don’t go to buy any more - primarily to catch up on with old friends and meet new ones. That goal was achieved

Who’s going to model it?

All ready done.

From what I’ve read it sounds like vendors such as N.S. have sold off their collection of olde beaters and parts ! Or also figured with the price of gas that the weight vs $ equation would come out more positive loading up the cube van with mainly new primo stock.

“my first time so I have nothing to compare it to, but It wasn’t as large as I expected & didn’t find many bargains. The venders were all very friendly. I also model HO & this show in no way compares to The Great Scale model show …”
The first LSTS i attended was the EC in '01 I was in a daze for entire 2.5 days event wall-to-wall G-gauge amazing ! And at the time prices were a lot better than what we were suffering thru north of the 49th. Even my second visit to EC in '03 was fanatastic and I still spent too much and squeezed tooo much in the duffle bag which had gone down empty.

That “great scale…” thingie, is it not all-scales ?
Sooooo of course in size and numbers attending it would not compare. Shucks our (international) SUPERTRAIN show coming up apr18-19th, which suffered thru a all weekend freak spring storm last yr., still had 8700 public attendees and that within an area greater than 4 indoor soocer/lacrosse fields (of which they are) ! But i won’t compare it to a LSTS ! A person should be comparing this spring LSTS to saaaay maybe the eaglewings (sp?) openhouse ! Ya got to compare apples tah apples ! LSTS-LSTS

I also attended the inaugural MWLSTS in '04 (and actually met Senor Ruby) I’m sure there were a lot more YAs than nays of the show overall ! Even though it was agreed it had to grow quite a bit to equal the EC … That first yr it would have been better to have the showers that York seemed to suffer again this yr vs the tornadoes that Ill. had wiping thru in '04 I’d never been that close to seeing or being wacked by a tornado ever before !

ECLSTS, the best LSTS in N.A. !!! (and still running tooo !)

IMHO,
doug c

Doug, every time I talk about heading out to one of the LSTS’s my kids ask if the guy from Canada will be there again. They thought you were fun…

OP, as for the show. A buddy of ours sent us pictures today. The show looked ok to me considering the economy.

Jon.

Jon;

Too bad you were not living closer (like Id or Mont), 'cause I’m sure they would luv to attend our, SUPERTRAIN !

The RBR just lost revenue stream again, so add on another yr or two before i’m lucky enough to attend another LSTS ! At least I got the excellent memories of mtg some great folks . . . .

I thought the show was great. Found some great deals and got to meet a lot of folks i’ve only talked online to. Most of the dealers had a % mark down that wasn’t listed, you had to ask. RLD Hobbies offered 10% off their listed price. Someone said they got a 20% discount from St. Aubins. If you paid cash most vendors didn’t charge tax. The biggest savings though was not paying for shipping. I really enjoy the layouts as well. Warrior Runs layout is probly my favorite, mainly because it’s narrow guage but all of them are excellent in their own way. The circus train, while not my cup of tea is really neat, and I really enjoyed whomever had the big CSX coal consist. I think it had 5 CSX diesels pulling a ton of coal hoppers. I tried to count them but got sidetracked by all the other cool stuff. It was also really great to see some of these models in person. If you think they look great online you ought to see them up close.
Terry

Terry,
The CSX coal train was on the Central Connecticut layout. I also thought the shpw was great. The CCTGG had their usual Yeungling informal get togethers at the host hotel. We were joined by other attendees and vendors. On Friday and Saturday night we had food delivered to the hote by the same Italian place we ordered from the past 2 years. Reasonable costs, fast delivery and good food.
LAO

Some of the final reports I got this evening sounded really good. Some killer deals to end the show as usual.

Jon.

I guess I was disappointed because I was hoping to see some of the smaller producers of 20.3 parts & kits there. Most of the engines & rolling stock present could be gotten on line for about the same price.
Did I miss Bachmann, or weren’t they there? Really liked the display as you first entered…maybe it got my hopes up. Also liked the coaling structure along with ,who knows how many, hopper cars. Jerry

No B’mann wasn’t there, though they usually are.

Had other commitments fellas (as usual) Work on Friday and a family event on Saturday up near Buffalo NY. Did convince the wife to let me attend a small “all scales” show in Batavia NY that I was told had over 10,000 thru the door in one day. It was cold and rainy by then while Saturday was sunny and mild in Western NY. I dropped close to $200 at the show still. Not a LOT of LS trains stuff BUT it was relatively easy to spot who ahd the stuff and who didn’t. Most were willing to wheel and deal too. It really helped to have a co-worker who set’s up a booth there to drop off purchases at while I continued shopping. Even better they had slots upstairs so the wife could go gamble while I shopped. Overall a nice little show.

Still want to get to the ECLSTS someday but as long as it’s scheduled on Friday and partially on Saturday it won’t happen.

Chas

I was there on Fri. Dave Hill and his son joined me, both were very impressed with the whole show!!. I had a wonderful time and got to meet some of the LSC regulars(Bruce Chandler, Russ Fox, Jon Radar ,Ric Golding). Jack Russell brought his scratchbuilt interlocking tower,it looked even better in real life!!
I thot prices were average…not too many blowouts on Fri. Sales seemed very brisk…At least us railroaders are spreading the wealth!!! My big purchase was a set of bb wheelsets for an accucraft caboose…Now it actually rolls!!!
