i got duct tape from 3M.
who knows, if this tape is heat resistent enough, to be used to seal off leakages for pouring resin?

Never tried it… I have used the aluminum tape tho…
I’ve used it seal cardboard containers for making molds out of RTV , but not for casting resin.
thanks.
i have not found alu tape yet here in our backwoods.
i hope, there is somebody out there, who has been bold enough to have tried this…
don’t know the answer… but this is what came to mind when I read the title…

I hope I’m wrong, but…
I suspect it’ll go all soft and gooey with the heat, Korm. Hate to be a downer, but…
Are you pouring a lake or river?
BTW I use it to keep plywood straight when laser cutting and it doesn’t seem to melt the edges all that much i.e clean cut, no melt.

that lets me hope.
it will be a river. just about three foot long, 5 to 7" wide and maybe less than an inch deep. (depth will depend on the learning curve. the better i will master shading between layers to simulate depth, the shallower it will be)
anyhow, for optical safety reasons i plan to partially hide it behind trees.
Well, I could not find the temp specs on regular duct tape, but 3m makes a high temperature duct tape that works to 200 degrees f, so I would assume the regular stuff is well below that.

Good one, Greg!

the (only) duct tape they sell here is declared as “low-medium adhesion Vynil Duct Tape 3903”.
i will use the clear resin, that i used to repair watertanks and pools. i don’t think that that stuff gets hotter than about 130F. when i used it, i mixed and poured it from cut open beer cans. they felt hot, but not scalding hot.
thanks for the comments, but it seems, that because of lack of actual experience i will have to make a trial-run first.
Vic, cool pic. i like, that the guy even restored the black stripe.
Well, there is always “Helicopter Tape,” a special type of duct tape used to patch bullet holes in helo rotors.
@steve we called it 100mph tape in Nam. I sure wish that I had a couple of 5" rolls of it. It was the stickiest tape that i’ve ever ran into.
NASCAR seems to find the two foot wide stuff to fix their cars with. They call it ‘200 MPH’ tape. And yeah, it is the stickiest stuff I have ever run up on. I did a search one time and found the stuff NASCAR uses. It is about $20.00 per foot. Right expensive stuff. Not sure of the temp specs, although I am sure a bit of searching will reveal them.

I think Durabond is the same as Eternabond, a very popular RV Roof sealant tape. I just placed an order for a 50 ft. x 6" roll to do the roof seams on my RV and repair a puncture. It was about $100.
