Brian,
Do you subscribe to a service that digs this stuff up for you, or do you spend your off hours digging on your own?
I’d agree, uppity describes someone who talks about the folks one way in Scranton, and another way with his uppity friends in San Francisco.
If he’s going by the dictionary version, I’d say he’s “right on!”
Why is Obama “uppity?”
Obama came from a fractured family, but worked hard and made his way through two Ivy League Universities. I suppose that makes him "uppity"compared to George Bush, who also went to two Ivy league universities, but started from a position of privilege?
Here’s a good definition of “uppity:”
“Taking liberties or assuming airs beyond one’s station; presumptuous”
Ken, can you tell me what “station” you think Obama should stay in, in order to avoid seeming “uppity?”
Lynn Westmoreland–now he is not “uppity.” Frm Wkipedia: “As a U.S. congressman, Westmoreland cosponsored a bill to place the Ten Commandments in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Westmoreland also sponsored a bill that the Ten Commandments could be displayed in courthouses in a historical setting.[3] In May 2006, political humorist Stephen Colbert interviewed Westmoreland for The Colbert Report show segment Better Know a District. The congressman was only able to name three of the Ten Commandments he sought to legally put in public display.”
You can see the video of Westmoreland here;

Westmoreland is not “uppity,” because he is ignorant and completely untroubled by the fact?
Contempt is too mild a word to describe my feelings for that clown
Well, Mike, I can see you’ve never researched who financed his “Way through 2 Ivy League Universities.” Doesn’t surprise me. I guess your next question will be do I have proof of that assertion. My answer will be I found it, rather easily I might add, let’s see if you can find it.
Just another example of being judged by the company you keep…or, in this case, who you take money from.
From where I sit, the local police “station” would be a vast improvement.
Ken, you live in a very strange world. Your scenario, which claims that Obama’s law school education was financed by “radical muslims,” is complete nonsense http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Obama_camp_denies_Sutton_story.html Read that link. There is no evidence to support the claim except the word of one man, who is described as “ill” and unable to comment. All the other evidence contradicts it. Obama got a scholarship to his undergrad college and aid for Harvard Law school with student loans: Here is a detailed link http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1064437,CST-NWS-sweet20.article Read the link. I doubt you will–your mind is made up on Obama, the lies are lies you like to hear. But meanwhile, who has ties to Saudi Muslims?

What was that about judging by the company you keep?
How in the world is someone suppose to know that using the word “uppity” now has racial over or under tones?
I’m offended that some one thinks I’m offending them by talking. This is pure crap and about of the caliber of the guy that wanted a hat that was so offensive that he could get into a bar fight within five minutes of walking in the door when wearing it.
Gay use to be happy and a hang man’s noose was and is a hard knot to tie. Doesn’t mean anything else. People need to get a life and “uppity” seems to be a great word to describe a lot of people no matter what race they are, especially the Obamas.
Too many denials and too many proven associations with shady charactors…that is what I find strange.
My world ain’t half as strange as Barak Hussein Obama’s seems to be…

“Westmoreland is one of the most conservative members of Congress. He has drawn criticism from civil rights advocates on a number of issues, including last year when he led opposition to renewing the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also was one of two House members last year who opposed giving the Justice Department more money to crack unsolved civil rights killings”
I am guilty of harboring prejudices as most of us are. But Westmoreland is an outright Racist who is an embarrassment to the Republican party and the State of Alabama.

Well said Ralph

Well said Ralph
Ralph, you’re a liberal… again
Ralph Berg said:Exactly why would Congressman Westmoreland be an embarrassment to Alabama? He is an elected representative of Georgia.
. . . is an embarrassment to the Republican party and the State of Alabama, (emphasis added)Ralph
First we have “pregnant 7 year olds”, then a claimed secessionist who never participated in the so-called secessionist party, and now a Congressmen who is from more than one state. Wow, those conservatives are really bad folks!
Living in one of the most liberal areas of one of the more liberal states has shown me that the left really thinks there is a boogeyman behind every thought, statement, or action, and will frequently make and use statements that are really off the wall to prove their points. That kind of rabid response actually winds up defeating the original points.
I very politely suggest some of you guys who do nothing but attack, attack, attack need to take a couple of deep breaths between jabs.
Back on topic, I agree that Congress Westmoreland’s comment could be considered to have racial overtones, but similar to Obama’s denial that his proven dealings with the indicted criminal Rezko had absolutely no sinister content, I suggest accepting the Congressman’s explanation. It doesn’t make much difference to me, as to the best of my knowledge, he doesn’t also represent California.
Happy RRing,
Jerry
Meanwhile they are trying to bury the “troopergate scandal.”
Here’s an overview
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOBWZ7Jocc8
It seems very likely that Palin tried to get the trooper fired because he was in a custody battle with her sister.
The trooper himself gave his story to the Wash post this morning, including the following account of the tasering of his stepson
"Wooten said he deeply regretted the Taser incident, offering an extensive explanation. He said the device was set on “test” and contained less power than an electric fence. Wooten said he shocked boy using clips attached to his shirt and not darts fired from the gun.
He said his stepson became curious and wanted to feel the Taser in the same way that troopers tested the device on themselves during training.
“He was inquiring about the Taser and all the ins and outs about it,” Wooten said. “I hooked him up to one of the training aides and turned it on for less than a second. I had him on the living room floor with pillows around him and made it as safe as possible. When it was over he thought it was great and wanted to do it all again. He was bragging about it and telling everyone in the family about it.” "
He’s no doubt trying to make himself look good. Did she try to fire the guy just to get revenge or make him look bad in her sister’s custody battle? It would be in everyone’s interest to have the truth of this thing come out as soon as possible.
But that’s not going to happen–the McCain/Palin campaign is doing its best to drag its feet and bury the thing.
No she was trying to get him fired for threatening her father And for shooting a moose out of season, and for drinking on the job.
Maybe so Ken–it’d be nice to have it settled, wouldn’t it?
Sure would, though if it was up to me and it had been my dad that the guy threatened, that trooper would be the one filing the complaint…from his hospital recovery room .
If it’s true, if it’s true
Holy Cow, this is like getting an education of absolutely worthless crap! What in the World is a POS? I know what an HMFIC is, a DWEEB and what FUBAR means. I even know what “furiner” is, but be nice and help with the latest anacronyms when trying to cut someone down or state that there is a new way to be politically incorrect.
Nobody here is going to convince anyone to change their vote, no matter how hard it is argued. Liberals are going to vote for liberals, lawyers are going to vote for lawyers, women are going to vote for women, but somehow the rest of us are prejudiced. Okay, that’s fine it doesn’t bother me and sure isn’t going to change my feellings.
Yea, Ric, your right. we’re starting to sound like a bunch of bloviating congressmen…BTW, your flag’s waving again. Must be windy in here too!
