HJ,
I hope that Jack has a better sense of humour than the moderator of the family forum (or has the moderator taken a sabatical away from trying to control the world, or at least his small-minded version of it?). I wish all the best for Jack and really hope that he is able to instill a sense of credibility into the site.

There is good reason for that, eh!?
it gives me much easier access to those YAHOO! groups that I read (three of them).
every time I get spam I send it right along to YAHOO! to take care of it. They thank me for that, even though I think they get what’s coming to them.
I really like the blocking feature on that email account, works as well as the blocking feature on www.rhb-grischun.ca - well you know how well that works, eh!
Just three of the reasons to have aYAHOO!.ca email account! Yes, it had to be @yahoo.ca; yahoo.com is too mundane. OTOH having a Group on YAHOO! leaves a lot to be desired, but it’s perfectly understandable
a) it’s free - apart from the users getting annoyed by the ads
b) it takes absolutely no skills to set-up and administer. A feature that works to the advantage of the owners of the LGB Family group - past and present.
c) it’s the perfect set-up for minimalists!
Cheers, eh!!

Time will tell, time will tell.

I might even resubscribe to the family, unless the members will be required to discuss exclusively RhB, exclusively collecting or just exclusively LGB as was once proclamed by McKing, best wishes from Tokyo, Zubi
[...]BTW did you know that it's YAHOO! time? Jack Barton is now the proud owner of the Yahoo! Groups LGB Family Group. As I said it's YAHOO! time. :D ;)

Jack, It's very simple. Just take a pair of calipers, measure something on an LGB car and whine about it being out of scale (incessantly). That should justify your ownership of said piece! :);):):);)a) having measuring tools
b) knowing how to use them
c) having the necessary information and knowledge what the prototype is all about.
Measure and compare! That is on fine way to shut up the Red Box Brigade and the “Ventilators”.
d) having a brain to process all this information and to decide what to do with the results, in terms of maximising ones intelligent satisfaction from a particular model railroading toy (LGB or other). Best wishes, Zubi

A terrible omission!
Tell you what I usually do with the results
a) I publish them on my hobby website http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/E/html/comparison-tables.html
b) I use them in reviews for the commercial press
c) I refer to them in the fora
One of the higher-ups (quite fond of the RhB) at Kalmbach Publishing commented after reading the comparisons: “I had no idea LGB was that far off the mark” (I’m paraphrasing!).
BTW there will be more a-coming, but right now I’m working in the garden; priorities, priorities!

Non-registered readers have a somewhat limited selection of topics to read. The interesting stuff such as Projects etc. etc. happens behind the scenes. The Filisur webcam is a big hit, a good way to keep up to date on what’s running on the proto. Only of minor interest to Kollektors and the roundy-round crowd.
Those different services, that’s very good but if they show up as Kookville it won’t make much difference. BTW our sales manager (aka SWMBO) prefers Elisabeth; she also sends her regards, she is still laughing over that major “Ventilator” blooper. Thought it was priceless, but not unexpected. She knows the difference between translations and Googledygab or Bablefishedybooboo; upon hearing the background she asked: “You mean his wife would let him walk right into it?” Now isn’t that a valid question, eh??

Sure Zubi, make sure you have the correct prototype lined up, as I mentioned “Seedorf” is a freelance local. I like doing that, throws even the natives for a loop.

At a show in Toronto we had two Swiss guys - no they didn’t know me! - stand in front of the HOm diorama debating/arguing where in Graubünden the scene was. They finally asked me. “A bit from here, a bit from there, the typical features from this part.” “Ah, that explains it!”
Hans-Joerg Mueller said:But Hans-Joerg, is this not _exactly_ what LGB is doing ;););)? Best, Zubi PS heading to Zurich the day after tomorrow - yes, RhB and much more!!
"A bit from here, a bit from there, the typical features from this part." "Ah, that explains it!"
Yeah, yeah Zubi, the big difference was them trying to convince people that it is true to prototype, carefully researched down to the last detail. Umph, hardy harhar!
HJ,
No dog in this fight. Just wanted you to know the pictures are fantastic.
Ralph
Thank you Ralph!
I hadn’t looked at them in some time and I think they could do with a bit of an update using Photoshop. Software and scanners progressed a bit since I scanned them and I learned one or two new wrinkles since, too.
Gained one or two new wrinkles, too, I’d imagine. (But who here hasn’t, eh?) Seriously, I enjoyed the photos, too, even if it isn’t steam. Is that the first photo ever taken of a “catenary pole hugger?”
Later,
K
HJ,
I’ve been ignoring this thread for a few days, so I missed your photos.
That layout is very well done. I suppose that next you will be asking us to suspend disbelief that you had anything to do with it.
Seriously, if you could update your photos, even if it is “half zero,” I don’t think that anyone here would complain, much.
We anxiously await that level of modeling on your outdoor RhB layout.

On that “catenary mast hugger”, good one, I like that. You know how it is about perspectives. But my Swiss friend - who moved to Oz - couldn’t refrain when seeing the mini railfan, his quip was : “Oh my, a railfan, too! Now all that’s missing is a camel!” Just to make sure that wouldn’t happen on the LS layout, I bought a Schleich camel.
Oh yeah, I dug out the old pictures, lots of them from the construction phase, too. Scanning 4x6s has been on “the list” for some time.
Steve,
Blooming amazing isn’t it , complete with animation i.e. the Hipp signal turns (in the correct unidirectional mode), the postal bus is sounding the typical horn, the engine whistles to “wake” the station master and the authentic Grison band plays.
