Maybe you could try to get him to finish his pizza oven …I’m sure his wife would like that…

Okay that is almost hilarious because one of our conversations has been on casting metal and he has suggested that the pizza oven could do double duty as a foundry. In regards to the oven not being done lets hope he didn’t learn the art of Devoning.

Too late … as you know staff infection is in everyone etc… I do believe that the “art of Devoning.” is as well …

Nice design for an early rigid frame arch bar, those will look good under your work cars.

Rick,

That’s what I was thinking. These back woods railroads were famous for taking old equipment that was no longer able to be in service and make them into whatever they needed for MOW work. That’s the idea for this whole train. A late 1800s railroad using mid 1800s equipment. So the rigid frame wooden bolster, long gone on in service equipment by this time, would be most likely the very type thing that would have been used.

Progress has been slow. But I start my weekend tomorrow and hope to get just about everything done besides the trucks and couplers. Pretty much all that’s left is the rigging and the trucks and couplers. I did get a chance to do a little bit of the fluff. A barrel of spikes, a barrel of tie plates, a pick, and a pile of fire wood. At the same time I painted a pick and a saw for the foreman car and made a wood stave culvert that will go on the tie and rail car.

You should get a box of goodies tomorrow.

Maybe I will get the whole thing done this weekend after all. . .(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Can’t wait to see it all together, great attention to detail (should have known you had it in you!), love the care and craftsmanship.

Could you color/paint the barrels to look like they do in this picture? Also, a little rust on the spikes and plates?

Actually John,

That must just be the lighting coming off the reddish wood. They are the same color. they went from this picture straight onto the car. However I do need to weather them for sure. Hadn’t thought about it but they are too pretty. I’ll work on that. I had wanted to use my decals from last years build, I made extra, but the barrels are no where near the same size. These were from Halloween candy from two years ago. Wish I would have saved more than two. they make nice open barrels.

Very nice Devon…

Here is the beginning of the truck Dan and I have been working on. Still need to polish it up and add some detail but I think its gonna look good. Thank You Dan for the help !!!

This is just sitting under the car to see how it will look

Journal box lids, bolt detail, those sideframes will turn out to be quite nice.

Yep. When I started down this road with Dan I intentionally had him leave of those details so that I could come back and put my personal touch on them. I wanted a blank slate… so that’s what I will be doing today.

I am having a rough day

2 pages later and I cannot believe anyone has not noticed the fatal injuries suffered by Devons worker when she had the whole crane assembly dropped on her. Great job on it Devon the whole thing looks awesome

It’s up on s lift. She is tending to it’s under carriage

Safety first, even in scale! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Okay since Forrest twisted my arm, I added a little detail to the truck.

The prototype truck only has one wooden brace for those rods. In order to have the mounting hole and still have this detail I improvised and put in two. I think it looks almost better that way.

Devon, the details make all the difference. The bolster, well, its too bad it won’t be seen much, it looks like it was as much work as the steam engine. Great job.

That’s why I typically don’t do undercarriage details. But dang it I like the truck and it just needed that detail. It takes s little carving.
