Dave's Mik 2022 Build

OK guys of course I’m in…

So for 2022 I’m going to attempt to build a Trestle to span a shallow valley that my approach to the Mountain Devision crosses… Currently spanned by a 1x4…

This will span about 6 feet, and be about 15 inches from the low point…

And to complicate things, it will have a curve in it…

I plan to make it a standard pillings and beam construction. I’ll start cutting up some old cedar fence pickets into the posts and beams along with the cross ties.

Let the fun begin.

That sure is a nice (company) napkin. We pull similar out for guests but day to day a piece of paper towel will do. You sure are fancy and I’m certain your trestle will be just as nice. LOL :upside_down_face:

I look forward to seeing your build.

Well… you caught me… I had to dig out a real napkin, just to be compliant.

And I messed up the first one…

Had to work 6+ hour at the Studio today, and still had to bring home some computer work…

So the only thing of mik i got done is:

Dug out my old trestle jig… will get some wood cut to fit the jig next.

Might need to draw a better plan then just the napkin…hummmmmm

Ahaaaa maybe not…

Thats ambitious. But you do ambitions well

Devon,
It only took me a few months… to build mine. :joy:

Spent some time in my unheated garage, Burrrrr!!!

But got what I hope will be enough Cedar cut down to size.

So now it’s just needs to get assembled…

Stay tuned…

Told Myself…Self… listen up… time to go home early today… So I Did!!!

And I started to cut up the cedar into piles and cross ties, and all the little stuff to build the bents.

Got a bunch of big stuff into a bunch of little stuff. I think there mostly all cut.

And then layed them out, ready for some Titebond lll, and a whole lot of 3/8" pin nails.

We’ll see just how much my wife lets me get done tonight…LOL

Stay tuned…

Well… life is good, at least the wife was preoccupied today and let me nail…

I got all 10 bents assembled… major step done…

And they all are OK for now…

Next up some weathering, and staining…

I need to make a pattern of the track curve so I can align with the existing track…

Stay tuned.

Bents are awesome if you have no trees with leaves.

LOOKING GOOD

Got a bit of time to tackle some of the trestle work…

Made a paper tracing of the actual track, and where the bents will go…

Put the bents on some foam palings so the top track part will be level…

Then placed the stringers across to check the fit and curve…

Tomorrow… Tight bond III and the nail gun…

Stay tuned

Dave, the trestle is looking great but the tower crane stole the show . Did you build that?

Coming along nice Dave, but the crane really should be placing the pieces.

Nope I didn’t build the crane… It was a school “ReCycle” project by my 11 yo G Grandkid.

I did do the design, and helped supervise but he did 95% of the work…

Um how come your grandson isn’t building a MIK project? That’s a cool crane!

VERY impressive work! I think that when I was 11, I could ALMOST count to 10! :innocent:

Well boy howdy even with help that’s an impressive build.

Hats off to your grandson, Dave. He did an excellent job. If he ever decides to build a MIK project, we’re all in trouble .

I agree with @WaverlySouthern . He needs to enter the Mik with skills like that!

Got a lot done today on the Trestle…

Got all the side bent bracing, and the Diagonal bracing, and the top ties…

Some mort top side stuff and I’ll be done…

Stay tuned
