The detail in the cast door is phenomenal, Dave. That really turned out great.

Next year’s challenge?

No, Vic, that would be to obvious but I bet it shows up in a couple, maybe 3 years when we’ve all forgotten about it.

So for today, I worked the studio[Day Job], and didn’t get a lot done. Started working on the door. I wanted to make the standard 2014 Mik’s door, into a windowed one.

Using an existing frame, I lined out where to cut out the top section.

I then mounted it up in the milling machine and made quick work of cutting out the window area.

And a bit of finish filing and Ta Da.

And then onto casting windows…

I’ll have the two 4/4’s in the front office area, and the three 6up’s on the sides, lot of flash to clean up…

Up next will be the stone work…

Stay tuned

Nice use of an existing door for the glass top door. Can we assume that you will use this as the master for casting?

@Dan… Nope, no intention to make a mold, I have numerous doors left over from the prior Mik’s.

I’ll make a smoking deal on 1:32 size doors…

Worked again today so not big strides accomplished.

Got all the doors and windows ready… ( no glazing yet ).

And Dug out the stone molds, and all the leftover “Taylor Cut Stones” on hand…

Will do some casting tomorrow, and then this thing should start coming together real soon…

Stay tuned.

What is this “worked” you speak of? Any progress is good, Dave.

Really appreciate your stepping through molding process. Not sure if we are ready to go there or not, and detailed posts like this help me evaluate techniques that are appropriate for where we are as a family, and not just where I want to go as a hobbyist!

Eric

Eric, I have been asked to do a tutorial on resin casting and mold making, And maybe some day I will, but not this week…

Todays progress… Casting Cut Stones for the siding…

Not much to show.

Thats still not enough, but progress…

Stay tuned.

Hey,

I don’t have any of those L shaped cap stones!!!

Dave, I’ve seen those stones or at least ones like those somewhere before … hmmmm … I wonder where (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The " L " shaped ones are corner stones, and yes these are re-runs from former Mik’s, I have them, so why not?

Started to get stoned today. Layed out the locations for the doors and windows.

This is a partially finished “Left” side.

Should see more progress tomorrow…Staytuned…

Not a lot of visual change… started to paint the doors and windows, and cut the holes in the walls to mount…

The block in the back…welll thats the chimney mount…

Stay tuned

most excellent

I like your method of getting “stoned” (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Looking good.

Got some more done today doors and windows.

And the fruit of my efforts . glazed and ready to install .

Tomorrow… it’s Saturday… good day to get stoned…

Stay Tuned

Plowing right along, I got one (left) side all windowed and stoned.

Got started on the right side after waiting for the glue to set.

Windows placed, and the surround work done.

And some detail work by the masons, extra work even for a lowly Blacksmith shop, a little extra pride in their work.

Waiting on glue to set, before tackling the front next.

Stay tuned.

Nice stone work, Dave.

Love the stone work Dave, how are you going to finish it, with washes??

I plan to give it at least one ink wash, and see how it turns out.
