Large Scale Central

Dave T. 2021 Mik Build

Major construction finished on the car itself… Onward to the detailing… I came up with the knowledge that each of the “jeeps” was basically a flat car unto themselves, Needed brake works, and being so short no room for the mechanicals things need to go up on top. Brake cylinder and a reserve air reservoir to handle the extra heavy loads.

Sacrificed a length of 5/8" alum. bar stock, and a bit of lathe time… ta-dah…

One more to turn, and that issue is ta-done… But figuring out how the actual brake linkage hooks up…I haven’t a clue yet…

Dave T.

Maybe mount the brake and the air cylinder on the frame side instead of on top. Will make it easier to work

Spent the rest of today detailing…got the “A” car “jeep” detailed …

Tomorrow i’ll start on the “B” Car “jeep”. Both cars have a complete brake setup.

Stay tuned…

Dave T.

This just keeps getting better!

dang that looks great/

While working on the “B” car I kept noticing the nuts on the end of the truss rods on the center dropped car… The more I noticed, the more they didn’t look right. They came across as too wimpy… and I think it’s the washer - beam interface… not heavy enough… so took out the hole punch and made be up a couple of washers to go behind the nuts…

Came out looking much better…

So now I have to add making 40 washers to the list…

Stay tuned…

Dave T.

You know, I was just thinking that this whole project is just too… what’s the phrase I’m looking for? … wimpy looking!

This just keeps get… oh, Eric already said that(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) But he’s right, every update just gets better and better. The brake details are great, looks as if they would actually work. This would make one hell of a kit, HINT, HINT

yes that looks much better

It is very important to have the right washers…you dont want the nuts to pull through tthose oak beams!

Spent part of the afternoon making new washers… PITA…!!!

But did get the two “jeeps” finished detailing…All the little pieces stuck on…

Up next… detailing the center drop car…

Stay Tuned…

Dave T.

Good thing you are not going overboard on a car your not sure would work on your layout! Remember a got first dibs if you can’t use it! LOL

Started on the center section details… Got the new washers installed, only had to make 1 new rod cause with the two .040 styrene washers couldn’t get the nut on…

Pulled all the detail parts from my “Ozark Treasure Chest” and thought OMG… just maybe I’m over doing it…

But… Stick all the jewelry on and i’ll be basically done…

So, when does the can appear?

Well Gang… I call in to work, and took the day off… Covid thingie excuse…

Got the rest of the detailing done… I’m pretty happy overall…

I think actual construction is done…Wahoo… I’m pleased as to how it turned out…

Up next some stain/wash and painting as needed… Gotta come up with an impressive load for this thing…

Stay tuned…

Dave T.

Stick all the jewelry on and i’ll be basically done…

Yeah, it is like that, isn’t? G bling!! Or Fn bling?

Fascinating work, Dave! Love those details, and I’m looking forward to see how you weather them.

Now I love that jewelry. Much better than all that gold and glittering stuff (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Don’t think the wife would like it, though (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

Wonderful work, with great craftmanship…now if only you can “Photo-cropt” that ugly truck mounted coupler out of there, and impose a body mounted scale sized one into its place…but then, others might not agree…

All-in-all, nice work, Dave…

Fred

That is just a great build. Nice job so far. Interested to see the finishing of the jewelry, staining, and the load of course. Nice job!
