All great stuff ! . . . . thanks so much for sharing it all with us who couldn’t be there . . .

Coming to you live from Beautiful Downtown Chama N.M. The Excursion starts Sunday And 315 is ready to go.

I Will be hosting (in other words putting it on) Saturday night, with 315 and the newly restored RPO car at the station. A few hundred feet of cords, 8 high power strobes and we will see what we can pull off.

I’ll try to post a pic or two as we go along.

Sunday the run will be from Chama over the top to Antonito. Really looking foreword to it.

You better…

Saturday, Chama. Spent last night prepping on 315. I stood on fireman guard till 12:00 last night. I did break out the good camera and got what I think are some great night shoots, but I can’t download them here in the Subway at lunch, later.

Spent this AM greasing and tending to, she’s ready for her staring roll in tonights night shoot.

And for the tech types. Found these laying in the engine house out side the machine shop. I appears to me to be a freshly poured babbit bearing, waiting to be machined.

Tomorrow engine call at 0700, we have to get up before breakfast, and end up in Antonito at the end of the day.

You lucky SOB…have fun…

It’d be nice to get to Silverton / Durango area some time when such a project is going on and spend a few days volunteering my hands. Glad you’ve had so much FUN and have shared it with us.

Back Home in Farmington. I could not wait any longer to get this pic downloaded:

I was in charge of the night shoots for the Chama Steam Fall Madness. I set this shot up in Osier on Monday night.

I even have to say WOW. But there was a lot of other photogs that we helped to get the shot, So I guess it will start to show up all over, But Remember that I showed first.

Wow is right!
Ralph

Wow!

Was this planned, or just super good luck?

Or clever photoshop?

Tell me what software and I’ll have to get it and take away from my train money:-(

Dave,

Very good shot. It could be a good seller!

Now that is excellent!

So, now I know where the Milky Way comes from. This is good information to have in my back pocket. I see my grand son this weekend, I’ll pass it along.

Don, No photoshop yet, this is basically just as I shot it, with a little contrast and exposure tweeking in Lightroom. yup, I had some luck. I planned the shot, for the trains location, lighting, and direction, the luck came in that we had a clear night, and at Osier the “Dark Sky” was incredible.

I plan a few tweeks in Photoshop, before I’ll call it right.

Amazing shot Dave. Nice set up! I’d be interested in an 11x17 of that.

Thanks for the complements.

Hey Guys, Just after I posted this pic here, I sent the un-retouched image up to “Rail-pics”. I had never sent anything up before, and so I had to join. I just got notification that it got accepted! That makes me 1 for 1. There was several photographers on the trip that has had a lot of pics excepted, and since I set up the shot, and light it ( with a lot of help from the heavens) I wanted to be the one to post it first. Patting my own back.

@jon Lets talk after I get it all finished up.

Almost 400 views already. You may make “Photo of the week” on your first try!
Ralph

Not bad, old man, not bad at all!

Wow? No… more like WOW!!!

What an awesome shot!

I’m guessing this was not done with a “point and shoot”. What kind of settings did you use?

Consider your self lucky. A lot of railroad photographers submit lots of good pictures to that site, and get ‘rejected’ for various reasons. I’m half surprised that it didn’t get rejected because of too much “sky” or some other BS… I think it looks great!

Nice picture
