That’s pretty kewl how you put that video together…

FANTASTIC . . . . . great photos.

Very nicely done. You have some wonderful photos there. Thanks for making the video.

Tom

Found this short clip on my iPhone that I forgot that I took of the D&S Southbound that we sat in the hole for. I was shooting stills on the big camera and trying to hand hold the iPhone.

Not so good video, but…

Any video of STEAM ENGINES is ALWAYS GOOD !

Dave,

You weren’t kidding…not so good video. Thanks for posting any way!

315 update.

Ran light from Silverton to Durango Wed. for prep to go to Chama. The crew will be Seperating the tender today. Friday I will be helping to load and transport her to Chama on a “Tank hauler” low boy. It sure would be nice if the track was still in place!

Why is it going to Chama ? ? ? ?

Chama Steam Fall Madness Photo-Freight Excursion

D&RGW 315 will be running for

3 or 4 days during September 29 – October 2

It is quite possible – but not guaranteed – that the 315 will be

double heading with the newly restored D&RGW 463.

For more information check Jay Wimer’s website:

www.chamasteam.com

We got the engine loaded in Durango, and unloaded in Chama. 108 miles. Ready to roll onto C&T rails.

Shot lots of pics, but this will have to do for tonight. Tomorrow we bring over the tender.

Dave,
You’re having way too much fun without the rest of us
Thanks for sharing!

I have a suggestion for the video. Slow it down. The photos zip by too fast
Ralph

Looks like you got some good help from the US Army. Way to go.

Dr Tom

OK for the record… The Tank hauler is privately owned, and licened as an RV. Rated at 70 tons. 315 engine weighs in at about 70,000 lbs. empty, it holds about 1200 gal of water.

Off to go get the tender this AM.

And a great time was had by all.

Dave

Very cool Dave. Some great shots as well. Was that area effect from all the rain?

Rain, Rain, Rain, And more Rain… a long wet day in Colorado and New Mexico. We got it done, the tender from Durango to Chama.

Had to load the tender in a small pond/mud puddle, and did I mention that it rained all morning!

Got to Chama, and it was raining, again or still.

So how do you unload a tender? Simple, hook the end of the rails to your rails on the trailer.

Today we got the assist from 489, which was on switching duty after todays run up the mountain.

Oh and did I mention that it was raining again. Truth is we did get about 20 minutes with only a little drip of rain to get the unchaining in.

Tomorrow we mate the tender back to the engine, at least it will be in the roundhouse, so let it rain…

Thanks Dave.

Fantastic . . . . thanks for sharing all of it with us. . . . .

315 related, I just finished hanging 5 large wall murals for the Durango Children’s library. I was commissioned by the Friends of the Library thru the Durango Railroad Historical Socity to produce these murals to decorate the blank walls of the new library. I did not get to pick any of the shots that were used, a comity did it.

Heres the first one, 4ft x 25 Ft. One Panel. D&S roundhouse with 315 inside. Yup, thats me!

And the second one, 7ft x 10 Ft. 315 on the tressel over the Animas River just south of Silverton.

Ya dun good!

Great murals Dave! I especially like the second one of #315 on the trestle over the Animas.
