CVSRy Herald update

I think the words Candlewood, Valley, and Scenic should all be curving the same way. Railway should be straight against the line at the bottom, though you could curve the top of the word.
Well, that would follow the prototype :) I wish I had chosen a shorter name, like Broad Top East :D

I like your attempt. I’m still thinking about the outline. I have new ideas on how to draw it - still having problems scaling it up and down.

#2 is my choice. What is the term "weeding"? Is that removing the vinyl that is not used?
Exactly. Nearly 80% of the vinyl is scrap. The vinyl around the outside between each letter and the centers of letters like D are weeded out by hand. The smaller and more complex the finished object is, the more difficult this is to do without damaging what you want to keep.
Maybe the letters should be black, printed on a white background. Then there's no weeding. ;)

would weed killer help???

Sorry, it was there… It just had to be done…

OK. Looks like the middle option with some tweaks won. I liked Bruce’s suggestion to round just the top in Railway. Only took me two hours to figure out how to do that in Illustrator

I’m thinking I need to do the same rounded top, level bottom effect to Valley to balance it out. So what do you think?

I think you have a good blend where you are Jon. Now may I ask for the history on the EBT symbol?

I agree with hollywood… That design is a nice blend… It kind of separates things… Candlewood Valley is formed together as the railroad name, per say, and the Scenic Railway kinda describes what it is…

I like that design… it seems to mold and flow better with the “Shield” emblem…

Hmm…maybe the line should be ABOVE “Scenic”

Not to throw a monkey wrench into things and while I like the design basically, I would do away with the line under “Railway” and curve the bottom of that to match the curve on the shield…either that are make that line narrower…(not as bold)

GRRRRR :frowning: :frowning:

Spent about an hour in Illustrator tweaking up minor mistakes in the outline shape and finalizing the text sizes and alignment when Illustrator crashed. Of course, I hadn’t saved my work, so I lost it all back to the version posted here.

I was planning on cutting some test logos tomorrow, but now I’m too ticked off at myself to get back to work on it tonight.

I should know better, but it’s never crashed on me before.

Edit to add - I agree with Ken that the line needed to be thinner. I made it about half as thick - equal to the serifs at the base of the font. I also tried curving the top of Valley and using a straight base. I liked how that balanced out. Just before I lost it I thought it looked good.

Decided I would go back and repeat all the fixes before I forgot them. Went faster the second time  Here is what I believe to be the final version for a test cut tomorrow. That is if my design gets past the art director as usable!

Thanks everyone for the input. I think we did a good job

me wikes it…

Here! Here!

Looking at the title of this posting, would it be wrong to suggest that you upgrade to the new drugstore logo of the same name? You could claim original ownership of logo looking for royalty rights or ask them for a sponsorship. Might be worth a free t-shirt or a free plastic bag with a purchase. Who knows? Happy Turkey Day.

Looks mighty fine from here Jon!

Thanks guys. I showed it to our Art Director today. He’s the guy who runs the vinyl cutter. He showed my how my technique for covering up unwanted lines was fine for the screen or paper printing, but the plotter will cut everything, even what’s “invisible” on the screen. So it’s back to the drawing board. Fortunately he also showed my how to do it the “right” way

Looks good Jon!
Will the herald be in a gray like it shows or will that be black as well?

It should be black. It is on my screen.

The first batch will be cut in white vinyl for installation on dark cars. I’ll do another run in black for light cars.

Huuum…The lettering shows black but the herald outline shows gray here?

After looking at all of them I’m still trying to figure out what the two things on the side are dog ears? Do you need them? Sean
